The MediaTek Dimensity 9300 is the chip maker’s latest offering for flagship smartphones. The new chip combines an enhancement in performance capabilities with increased power efficiency to deliver what MediaTek calls “a huge boost in raw computing power.”
The increase in raw computing power stems from the new architecture implemented in the MediaTek Dimensity 9300. Unlike other chips on the market, which typically have one ultra-large core and a mix of big cores and small cores, MediaTek has abandoned the small cores and, instead, chosen to incorporate 4 ultra-large cores and 4 big cores in the MediaTek Dimensity 9300.
MediaTek has revealed that the CPU performance capabilities of the MediaTek Dimensity 9300, when combined with its new APU 790 AI processor, will deliver the on-chip AI processing capabilities needed for upcoming generative AI applications, such as edge AI and hybrid AI computing.
The APU 790 promises to achieve a 45% reduction in power consumption and an 8x increase in processing speeds. It will also offer support for language models with up to 13 billion parameters, such as Meta Llama 2, Baichuan 2, and Baidu AI LLM, on smartphones with up to 16GB RAM.
Furthermore, MediaTek asserts that the APU 790’s NeuroPilot Fusion capabilities facilitate LLM scalability of up to 33 billion parameters, empowering developers to swiftly deploy multi-modal generative AI applications. However, we will need to witness it in action to gauge the performance of the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 when pushed to its limits.
The chip is equipped with the Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU. According to MediaTek’s data, this GPU offers a 46% increase in GPU performance compared to the MediaTek Dimensity 9300’s predecessors and a 40% reduction in GPU power consumption. Coupled with the CPU capabilities, MediaTek has announced that the Dimensity 9300’s GPU will provide improved mobile gaming performance, advanced raytracing effects, and enhanced multi-tasking capabilities.
Smartphones equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 will support various features, including up to 4K 60fps photography and video, 4K 30fps cinematic mode with bokeh, 4K AI Noise Reduction and AI processing, 180Hz WQHD or 120Hz 4K display, and advanced display quality optimizations using the MiraVision Picture Quality engine.
Lastly, the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 will provide Wi-Fi 7 with speeds of up to 6.5 Gbps, 5G connectivity with power efficiency enhancements, and improved long-range Wi-Fi connectivity through MediaTek Xtra Range Technology.
