With the recent US launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series and the OnePlus 13, it might seem like flagship season is just getting started. But in reality, it began way back in October, with the introduction of MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite flagship processors, quickly followed by phones like the ASUS ROG Phone 9 series, Realme GT7 Pro, and Oppo Find X8 and X8 Pro.

I spent most of November testing the Dimensity 9400-powered Oppo Find X8 Pro ($890) and Snapdragon 8 Elite-equipped Realme GT7 Pro ($657), followed by the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered OnePlus 13 ($899) in December. All three handsets are similar in design and specs, albeit with slightly different camera systems. That’s really no surprise, since these three brands fall under the umbrella of parent company BBK Electronics.

While I also spent some time using the smaller, more affordable, Dimensity 9400-equipped Find X8 ($656), the focus of this review is on the Find X8 Pro, Oppo’s current candybar flagship. Eagle-eyed readers will remember the Find X7 Ultra, one of last year’s best cameraphones, which I tested in Antarctica. While there’s no Find X8 Ultra yet (it’s rumored to be coming), the Find X8 Pro is no slouch when it comes to imaging.

So let’s dive in. Is the Oppo Find X8 Pro a better flagship than the OnePlus 13? With four 50MP shooters on board, is this the new cameraphone to beat? Or should you wait for the Oppo Find X8 Ultra? Read my review to find out.

Hardware and Design

Design-wise, the Oppo Find X8 Pro shares a lot in common with its cousins – the OnePlus 13 and Realme GT7 Pro – but it’s the most refined of the bunch. All three phones use 2.5D glass front and back, with subtly rounded edges on all four sides. This results in a thinner aluminum frame all around, looks super sleek, and feels fantastic in hand. In fact, these flagships are about one millimeter thinner than last year’s crop.

Under that 2.5D glass, the Find X8 Pro features a perfectly flat 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display (2780 x 1264 pixels, 450 ppi) with a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate and support for HDR10+ plus Dolby Vision. It’s a bright (4500 nits peak), beautiful screen, with vibrant colors, inky blacks, and wide viewing angles. Bezels are thin and uniform, and there’s a center punch hole for the 32MP selfie camera.

Overall, the layout resembles the OnePlus 13, with the iconic alert slider (recently adopted by Oppo) located on the left side, and the volume rocker, power/lock key, and a new Quick Button mounted on the right (more on that later). You’ll find the dual nano-SIM tray, a pair of microphones, the USB Type-C port, and one speaker along the bottom edge, plus another microphone, the IR transmitter, and the other speaker on top.

Around the back, the four 50MP shooters are arranged like compass cardinal points in a large, round camera pod that’s very similar to the OnePlus Open’s, down to the small circular flash module that protrudes slightly from the top-left corner of the rear glass. The Find X8 Pro is available in three hues: Space Black (like my review unit), Pearl White, and Blue – with black, silver, and blue camera bumps, respectively.

Like the OnePlus 13 and Realme GT7 Pro, the Oppo Find X8 Pro is rated IP68 and IP69 for water and dust protection. So besides being able to handle immersion in three feet of water for thirty minutes, these phones can also survive going through the dishwasher. Nifty! Unlike its cousins, which pack an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor, the Find X8 Pro makes due with a more pedestrian optical sensor.

The Find X8 Pro boasts MediaTek’s most powerful chip, the Dimensity 9400, alongside 12 or 16GB of RAM, plus 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage (without microSD expansion). You’ll also find 5G, WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and GPS on board, plus a 5910mAh silicon-carbon battery that supports 80W SuperVOOC fast wired charging, 50W AirVOOC fast wireless charging (Qi-compatible), and 10W reverse wireless charging.

Oppo includes an 80W SuperVOOC fast charger in the box in most markets (outside Europe), and offers Apple MagSafe-compatible cases with built-in magnets for a more seamless wireless charging experience. The Find X8 Pro also features excellent stereo speakers (though no headphone jack, naturally), superb haptics thanks to a high-quality linear vibration motor, and quick and reliable face unlock.

Software and User Experience

The Oppo Find X8 Pro runs ColorOS 15, which is based on Android 15. It’s almost identical to OxygenOS 15 on the OnePlus 13, which is really no surprise since both share the same codebase. Over time, ColorOS has evolved to provide a delightfully smooth and polished user experience that includes just enough helpful customizations. Version 15 received a visual overhaul, but still doesn’t deviate too far from stock Android.

As you’d expect, ColorOS 15 delivers a generous serving of AI. This includes Google’s Circle To Search, Gemini, and Gemini Live. Oppo’s own AI TooBox, which is accessible from the sidebar, automatically suggests AI tools based on your current app. This includes AI Summary, AI Speak, AI Writer, and AI Reply. These help you summarize, read out loud, rewrite, and polish text without interrupting your app workflow.

In addition, the Find X8 Pro features a handful of AI-enhanced apps, like Recorder (which can transcribe and summarize voice recording), Notes (which offers one-tap formatting options to enhance and restructure your notes), and Documents (which can rewrite, summarize, and translate documents in seven languages). AI Studio lets you reimagine your photos using a variety of styles, like classic, cartoon, texture, and drawing.

Oppo’s AI-based photo editing tools inside the Photos app are more interesting. First, there’s AI Eraser, which can remove people or objects from images. You also get Reflection Eraser, which attempts to reduce annoying reflections in pictures (with mixed results), Unblur, which eliminates blur from shots (hence the name), and Clarity Enhance, which tries to restore the detail that’s been lost in zoomed or cropped images.

Touch to Share provides an AirDrop-like experience with iOS devices via the O+ Connect app, which is pretty cool. Like other recent Oppo phones, the Find X8 Pro will receive four years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. My review unit came with a lot of preinstalled bloatware (Booking.com, Fineasy, iQIYI, Lazada, LinkedIn, Netflix, Shopee, Spotify, and TikTok), plus the usual Oppo and Google apps.

Since the Find X8 Pro isn’t officially sold in North America, it lacks some 4G LTE and 5G bands used here, and isn’t compatible with Verizon, so keep that in mind if you decide to import this phone. That being said, I didn’t experience any issue using the Find X8 Pro on T-Mobile and AT&T San Francisco, New York City, and Miami, and on Telus in Vancouver, Canada. I also used it in India, Germany, and France without problems.

Day-to day, the Find X8 Pro performs like a champ. It’s one of the fastest Android flagships available today, alongside the OnePlus 13. As such, it ran our standard roster of productivity, communication, entertainment and gaming apps without breaking a sweat. Battery life is fantastic as well. With normal use, the Find X8 Pro will easily last two days on a charge. In a pinch, you might even be able to get three days out of that massive battery

Camera system

As I mentioned above, the Oppo Find X8 Pro boasts four 50MP shooters, just like the Find X7 Ultra, one of last year’s top-tier cameraphones. That’s also one more lens than the OnePlus 13, in the form of an additional 6x periscope telephoto. But without “Ultra” in the name, is this “Pro” handset remotely in the same league as the Find X7 Ultra when it comes to imaging, or should you wait for the (rumored) Find X8 Ultra?

Here’s what the Find X8 Pro brings to the table:

  1. 50MP f/1.6 1.12-micron 23mm main sensor (1/1.4-inch Sony LYT-808) with laser AF, omni-directional PDAF, and OIS
  2. 50MP f/2.0 0.64-micron 120-degree 15mm ultrawide lens (1/2.75-inch Samsung S5KJN5) with PDAF
  3. 50MP f/2.6 0.8-micron 73mm (3x) tri-prism telephoto (1/1.95-inch Sony LYT-600) with omni-directional PDAF and OIS
  4. 50MP f/4.3 0.7-micron 135mm (6x) periscope telephoto (1/2.5-inch Sony IMX858) with PDAF and OIS.

As you can see, those are pretty decent specs – at least on paper. Sure, most of the Find X8 Pro’s sensors are smaller than the Find X7 Ultra’s but the phone is also significantly thinner. Note that the main, ultrawide, and 3x tri-prism telephoto shooters are identical to the OnePlus 13’s. Ditto the 32MP f/2.4 0.8-micron 21mm fixed-focus selfie camera (1/2.7-inch Sony IMX615) behind the screen’s center punch hole.

In the back, all four sensors combine groups of four neighboring pixels into one for better low-light performance. This pixel binning technique outputs 12MP images with 4x larger pixels, resulting in less noise. Plus, the main shooter supports quasi-“lossless” 2x zoom using in-sensor crop. And, to make up for the Find X8 Pro’s smaller main sensor, Oppo paired it with a faster f/1.6 lens capable of gathering more light.

Photo modes on the Find X8 Pro generally match the OnePlus 13’s. These include macro (ultrawide), action, burst, portrait, night (all five cameras), 50MP high-res, panorama, long exposure, and document scanner. XPAN mode emulates Hasselblad’s signature 65:24 aspect ratio, and Master mode is a manual/pro mode with extra adjustments. Oppo even provides three film simulation filters to choose from, for that nostalgic vibe.

Clear Burst (aka. Lightning Snap) – which is also available on the OnePlus 13 – reduces motion blur without sacrificing detail or dynamic range. When combined with Action Mode, it lets the Find X8 Pro take amazingly clear low-light action shots of subjects in motion. This burst mode works at up to 7 frames per second, matching some DLSRs. Plus, with virtually no shutter lag, you’ll never miss an important moment.

The Find X8 Pro captures stabilized video in Dolby Vision HDR (with stereo audio) at up to 4k/1080p 30/60fps with all five shooters. Additional video modes include portrait (main, selfie, 1080p 30fps), ultra steady (up to 4k 60fps rear, 1080p 30fps selfie), movie (manual, 21:9, 4k 30fps), slow motion (main, 3x tele, 1080p 240fps and 720p 480fps), time lapse (all cameras, 4k 30fps), and dual view (rear plus selfie, 1080p 30fps).

Ultimately, the results speak for themselves. Check out the gallery below. The Find X8 Pro takes spectacular pictures, no matter the conditions. It captures photos (and selfies) with impressive detail, superb exposure, and beautiful, natural colors. Low-light performance is excellent, and dynamic range is solid. Videos are lovely too, but don’t quite match the iPhone in terms of smoothness and overall quality. No surprise here.

The Find X8 Pro’s zoom performance is simply outstanding. Oppo’s AI zoom algorithms – combined with the dual telephoto setup – means that 6x pictures are top notch, 12x pictures look great, 20x shots are good, and 30x images look decent. Even 60x photos are generally acceptable, though image quality clearly degrades beyond 30x. Zoom performance is definitely where the Find X8 Pro outshines the Find X7 Ultra.

Obviously, the Find X7 Ultra still holds the edge in low light, especially with the main shooter. That 1-inch sensor is hard to beat. But the Find X8 Pro has one more trick up its sleeve: the Quick Button. It’s a simple capacitive camera button with haptic feedback. Unlike the iPhone’s complex and finicky Camera Control, the Quick Button is just a shutter button and zoom slider: press to shoot, and slide to zoom. Easy peasy.

The little sibling

If you think the Oppo Find X8 Pro is too much phone for you, check out its more affordable little sibling, the Oppo Find X8 ($656). It’s almost identical in specs, but with a smaller 6.58-inch display, and a smaller 5630mAh battery. The Find X8 lacks the 6x periscope telephoto lens, and swaps the Find X8 Pro’s main camera for a smaller 50MP f/1.8 1.0-micron 24mm sensor (1/1.56-inch Sony LYT-700) with omni-directional PDAF and OIS.

Design wise, both handsets are very similar, but the Find X8 drops the 2.5D glass front and back for iPhone-like slab sides. It’s available in a wider range of colors, however: Star Grey, Space Black, Shell Pink, and Blue. Everything else carries over from the Find X8 Pro, including the Dimensity 9400 chipset, 80W SuperVOOC fast wired charging, and 50W AirVOOC fast wireless charging.

Oppo Find X8 Pro review: Verdict

Let’s not beat around the bush. The Oppo Find X8 Pro is a phenomenal flagship. It offers a gorgeous display, outstanding performance and battery life, fast wired and wireless charging, plus clean and responsive software. And, despite launching in Q3 last year, it’s still one for the best handsets of 2025. If you live abroad and want a better OnePlus 13, the Find X8 Pro’s got you covered – it even costs about the same.

But it’s the Find X8 Pro’s superb camera system that really sets it apart from the competition. Zoom performance is particularly impressive, but almost everything about these shooters is top notch. Four months in, these are still my favorite cameras on any phone – at least until the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Oppo Find X8 Ultra land on my desk. Just remember the limited band support if you decide to import this phone to North America.
