Mattel is marking this year’s Pride Month with a brand-new UNO card deck that celebrates the LGBTQ community.
Officially called UNO Play with Pride, this latest version of the classic card game features a rainbow-themed design that will inspire players shout “UNO!” loud and proud when they’re down to their last card.
Unlike other special editions of the UNO card game, UNO Play with Pride doesn’t have any additional cards and rules. Its gameplay is the same as the standard UNO, where players race to get rid of all the cards in their hand by matching the card on top of the discard pile by color or number.
Uno Play with Pride is a collaboration between Mattel and non-profit the It Gets Better Project to promote inclusivity.
Founded by gay activist Dan Savage and his husband Terry Miller in September 2010 in response to the suicides of teenagers who were bullied because they were gay or because their peers suspected that they were gay, the It Gets Better Project seeks to inspire people across the globe to share their stories and remind the next generation of LGBTQ+ youth of their worthiness and power.
As part of the collab, Mattel has donated $50,000 to the It Gets Better Project in support of their initiatives supporting LGBTQ+ youth. The toy company will also serve as a partner of the It Gets Better Project digital pride festival happening in late June.
The UNO Play with Pride card deck, which is also part of Mattel’s 50th anniversary, is now available to purchase for $5.99 on the Mattel website and Target retailers across the country.
