E-commerce and content platform Mattel Creations is bringing back the iconic Shogun Warrior toys to the U.S. with a mashup action figure in the likeness of Masters of the Universe villain Skeletor.

Officially called Shogun Masters Skeletor, the new large-scale toy features a silhouette similar to the giant Japanese robot models known as Jumbo Machinder.

Standing almost 2-feet tall, the Shogun Masters Skeletor is instantly recognizable. And just like most Shogun Warrior toys in the past, the newly unveiled action figure is battle-ready with missile-powered weapons that include one of his massive fists and his iconic Havoc Staff. This robot warrior carries a total of 8 missiles that can be used as ammunition or snapped onto his boots and body armor.

The Shogun Masters Skeletor is designed by Ruben Martinez, a senior manager on Masters of the Universe toy line at Mattel. Martinez was introduced to Shogun Warriors when he was a kid and his love of these mechs led him to his current employment.

The Shogun Warriors toy line was first licensed by Mattel during the late 1970s. But similar to other toy lines at that time, the Shogun Warrior toys came under pressure over safety concerns regarding their spring-loaded weapons. There was also a risk that small children might choke on the small plastic missiles and other parts of the toys. Because of these safety concerns, paired with declining sales, the Shogun Warriors toy line was ultimately discontinued in 1980.

Since Mattel was one of the first to introduce U.S. children to Japanese toys with Shogun figures and also the pioneers who created Masters of the Universe, a Shogun Skeletor is the perfect pairing of two iconic lines.

The Shogun Masters Skeletor will be exclusively available on Mattel Creations starting Friday, April 23rd.
