On Thursday, the toy company unveiled the new LEGO Ideas Home Alone set, an amazingly detailed recreation of the McCallister family residence from the beloved 1990 holiday movie, starring Macaulay Culkin as Kevin.
Based on a design submitted to the LEGO Ideas platform by 28-year-old Alex Storozhuk from Ukraine, the LEGO Ideas Home Alone set includes a total of 3,955 LEGO pieces, making it the largest set created from a LEGO Ideas concept.
The LEGO Ideas Home Alone set is instantly recognizable, thanks to its attractive exterior that perfectly captures the look of the grand McCallister family home from the outside. Like the façade, the interior layout of the set is also true to the movie. There’s the ground and first floor, the kitchen, as well as the basement and the attic, which are all packed with details from the movie. To fully reveal the set’s interior, a new opening mechanism opens up the house. The walls also separate in the middle to open sideways, while the roof opens upwards.
Some of the fun features found inside the house are the after-shave lotion from the film’s “The Scream” bathroom scene, Buzz’s pet tarantula, and the paint cans that Kevin used to knock down his unwanted visitors. Also included in the massive set is the McCallister’s backyard treehouse with a zipline as well as the bandits’ modular van featuring a crowbar and a police hat. To recreate iconic scenes from the film, the set comes with minifigures of Kevin, robbers Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern), the old man Marley (Roberts Blossom), and Kevin’s mom, Kate (Catherine O’Hara).
Split into an Advent Calendar-like 24 build bags, the LEGO Ideas Home Alone can be built in sequence with the movie, starting with meeting the robbers and their van and ending with Kevin’s reunion with his mom.
“Just like every 90s kid, I grew up watching Home Alone and it takes a very special place in my heart,” Storozhuk said of his inspiration for the set. “I can’t even imagine holidays without it. This movie is very nostalgic and makes those warm childhood memories come up every time.”
Storozhuk’s original design was polished by LEGO designer Antica Bracanov, who created the final version of the LEGO Ideas Home Alone set. “Bringing Alex’s Home Alone house to life has been brilliant fun,” Bracanov said in a statement. “He’d thought about every aspect, from the layout of the rooms to the use of color and of course the details from the movie to make it instantly recognizable.”
Priced at $249.99, the LEGO Ideas Home Alone set will be available from LEGO.com and LEGO Stores starting November 1st.
