Could Hogwarts Legacy soon be getting an official release date? It seems so, now that news about the Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy Collectors Edition has leaked online via GameStop.
This all may be a calculated move by the game’s developers, Avalanche Software, to whet fans’ appetites before the promised 2022 release date is finally announced.
This time, posts to the Harry Potter Game Reddit show an email from GameStop promoting a Pre-Order for the game:
And then there’s this photo in a GameStop store with a Hogwarts Legacy “Coming Soon” ad:
In both instances, GameStop does not reveal anything new about the game’s contents. Still, GameStop seems to be communicating its readiness to receive orders once the developers give them the green light.
Some fans believe the email was sent in error, while others believe that GameStop is just trying to get ahead of the competition.
There is no way to know for sure why GameStop is making the moves that it is, but these updates certainly indicate that preparations are being made behind the scenes for a Hogwarts Legacy’s release.
Previous Hogwarts Legacy updates
The news from GameStop follows two updates made a month ago from Warner Bros and the game’s official Twitter handle.
On July 21, 2022, the game’s official Twitter handle teased fans with a video that contained in-game footage from the North Tower with the caption “Every corner of Hogwarts has something to discover”.

And on July 23, 2022, the official Warner Bros. Games France Twitter page released a 30-second video that contained footage from the game, which included a new look at the Hufflepuff common room, which revealed more of what fans are so excited about.

Will Hogwarts Legacy come out?
While fans eagerly anticipate the long-awaited Harry Potter game’s debut later this year, there are rumors that the game may be postponed until 2023. Colin Moriarty, a well-known industry insider, claimed in February that the game required “more time in the oven”. That’s when Warner Bros. Games reiterated that the game would be released in 2022.
Even though Harry Potter isn’t as popular as it once was, the game’s reveal trailer has received the most views ever on the PlayStation YouTube channel.
What is Hogwarts Legacy all about?
Hogwarts Legacy is a highly-anticipated immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Players will journey through both familiar and new locations to explore and discover fantastic beasts, customize in-game characters, craft potions, master spell casting, and upgrade their talents.
Players will play the Hogwarts Legacy story as a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart and with the power to decide the fate of the wizarding world.
Once released, the game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PCs, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, the Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.
Hogwarts Legacy gameplay trailer
Hogwart’s legacy now has a gameplay trailer and pre-order details.
The trailer, posted on Hogwarts Legacy’s official YouTube channel, showcases an optional companion quest that players will encounter should they befriend Slytherin student Sebastian Sallow.
The player must decide between embracing or rejecting the Dark Arts to uncover Sebastian Sallow’s family mystery. The gameplay trailer showcases in-game characters exploring the dark arts, Unforgivable Curses, and a dark magic spell called “Crucio” that brings zombies and dreadful magical creatures to life.
Hogwarts Legacy pre-order is now live
Fans can pre-order the game on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, and PC via the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store starting August 25th, 2022.
Nintendo Switch gamers will have to wait for a pre-order date announcement. Players who pre-order stand a chance to obtain the exclusive Onyx Hippogriff Mount upon completing the relevant quest.
