Confectionery maker Mars, Incorporated announced last week that its new Hazelnut Spread M&M’s will be rolling out in retail stores starting this month.
First announced back in September 2018, Hazelnut Spread M&M’s has the signature M&M candy coating but filled with creamy chocolatey hazelnut, similar to the much-loved spread Nutella.
“Chocolatey hazelnut spread unlocks a side of indulgence that’s all its own, so we wanted to tap into that mania and bring something to life that our fans would go crazy for,” Allison Miazga-Bedrick, M&M’s brand director, said in a statement of why they decided to make hazelnut spread their newest flavor. “It’s no secret people love hazelnut spread and love M&M’s, so we can’t wait to see the reaction to this breakthrough taste experience.”
Food & Wine, who has already tasted the new flavor, said that the filling of the Hazelnut Spread M&M’s is not as chocolatey as Nutella, but with the candies’ milk chocolate coating, the taste is generally the same. Additionally, like its peanut butter and caramel counterparts, Hazelnut Spread M&M’s are a bit bigger in size than the standard M&M candies and a little rounder than the Peanut M&M’s.
Packaged in a bright teal bag, Hazelnut Spread M&M’s will be available in three different sizes: single size, share size, and stand-up share size pouch. The 8.3oz resealable stand-up pouch will retail for $3.99 each.
According to Mars, Incorporated, Hazelnut Spread is a permanent flavor, so there’s no way candy lovers will miss this out.
