No home is complete without a portable handheld vacuum. Your full-size vacuum and RoboVac are great, but nothing achieves a 10-second cleanup like a good handheld.

To that effect, Eufy’s HomeVac H30 Mate is one of the slickest-looking handhelds we’ve used to date and it packs unbelievable suction power for its slender size.

The HomeVac H30 Mate weighs less than 2 lbs and offers a very powerful 80 AW of max suction. The vacuum comes with a mini motorized pet brush perfect for pet hair and fur, with a handful of other accessories to boot. Stick around for a complete run-through of this powerful handheld vacuum.

Unboxing and first impressions

We really dig the look of the HomeVac H30. A lot of portable handheld vacuums are chunky and odd-shaped. Not so with the H30 Mate. It’s long and sleek and the slimmed-out design adds to its functionality since the length makes it easier for the small vacuum to reach the floor and fit behind or under small openings.

Included accessories

The H30 Mate comes with a motorized pet brush and a 2-in-1 crevice tool

The Eufy HomeVac H30 Mate comes with a motorized pet brush and a 2-in-1 crevice tool. You don’t need to use either of these accessories, but the vacuum looks strange without them. Without an accessory, the H30 Mate has a wider opening to vacuum with, but the handheld vac looks like it’s missing something at the end. Nevertheless, the H30 Mate is completely functional without an extension.

This cordless vacuum cleaner couldn’t be easier to use. Heck, my 3-year-old was able to figure it out on his own, including putting it back in the charging dock. A single power button will turn it on and put it on eco mode and a slider gives it boosted suction. The slider is a nice addition since you have the option to either use the boost or not.

Performance

The Eufy HomeVac H30 Mate is great at getting rid of pet hair

The Eufy HomeVac H30 is impressively powerful for its compact size. It’s well suited for getting pet hair off carpets and couches. The rotating brush head makes cleaning couches, carpets, floors, and most flat surfaces really easy. We primarily use the 2-in-1 crevice tool for quick cleanups — it works excellently in the car, for toddler messes, behind the cushions, around the litter box, you name it.

Eufy HomeVac H30 Mate performance
The H30 Mate is relatively lightweight, weighing under 2lb

When attached to one of its tools, the elongated design renders the H30 Mate to about 2 feet in length and the handle is in the back so it feels natural to use. The vacuum is relatively lightweight, weighing under 2lb. It’s also easy to get into tight spaces.

We liked having two very useful accessories instead of the usual 5+ tools that just take up space. With the HomeVac H30, you’ll still have to bend to do most of the cleaning. You can choose to buy a longer accessory to use the vacuum standing up, or you can buy the H30 Infinity which comes with this, and more.

Battery life and charging dock

Eufy HomeVac H30 Mate battery and charging base
The HomeVac H30 Mate comes with a charging base

The battery is supposed to last 20 minutes on eco mode and half of that at max mode on a single charge. In practice, it feels like it lasts longer. We can go over a week without charging and just do quick spot cleans around the house.

Eufy HomeVac H30 Mate 3-light battery meter
Eufy HomeVac H30 Mate is equipped with a 3-light battery meter

The vacuum is equipped with a 3-light battery meter so you’ll know when you’re running low on juice. The charging base is the only way to charge the H30 and it mounts or sits nicely on the floor.  it’s very easy to use as well.

The vacuum is fitted with holsters on either side to store your accessories, but the pet brush isn’t designed to fit into either of them. We found this annoying because there’s no place to store the pet brush other than on the H30 while it charges which isn’t ideal.

Noise

The vacuum is sadly very loud and high-pitched. It’s rated to be 78db, which is fairly accurate. When using it in the max mode it’s more like 82db. We found the noise to be especially uncomfortable in small spaces like in the car. We still use it in the car since it’s a perfect size, but we leave the max mode off.

Cleaning and maintenance

Eufy HomeVac H30 Mate: Maintenance
The clear mid-section on the H30 Mate allows you to see built-up debris so you know when the H30 Mate needs emptying

Cleaning the H30 Mate is our least favorite aspect of the device. The clear mid-section allows you to see built-up debris so you know when it needs emptying. You can also tell when the filter needs cleaning because the suction power is not as good.

This mid-section slides off, splitting the waste collection bin side from the tech. There’s a thick rubber sealing gasket on the dust bin side that you should remove before emptying the debris. This takes two hands and a bit of force.

Alternatively, you can just shake the waste through the gasket. Either way, it’s a little more hassle than you’d want for something that should take 10 seconds. The filter is on the other half of the unit and has a metal dust cover over it. This is also a two-handed operation that requires some force, like opening a medicine bottle.

Once free, you can tap the filter and dust cap to shed a lot of dust. we do this every few days and do a more thorough wash in the sink every week or two. You need to let it dry for the day before using it again.

Finally, sliding the two halves of H30 back together could also have been a little easier. You need some precision to align the tracks. The overall maintenance could be worse. It only takes about a minute most days, but some smarter design decisions could have made it easier.

We’ve seen a lot of fluctuation in the H30 price-wise. If you can snag it for a little over $100 — it’s a great purchase. That said, it retails for $179.99, which can still be worth it depending on your needs. In addition to the H30 Mate, Eufy also has the H30 Venture and H30 Infinity to offer.

Comparing products

The Venture doesn’t have the mini motorized brush but instead offers a multi-surface tool. The Infinity has a floor extension to make it more like a Dyson stick vacuum. The vacuum cleaner also offers a mopping module and everything else the Mate comes with. We suggest taking a look at the price for Infinity before buying the Mate, if it’s only a few dollars more then that is the better purchase.

Final thoughts

We’re big fans of the Eufy H30. The form, suction power, and usability really check all of the boxes for us. The handheld vacuum excels at quick cleanups and eliminating pet hair on the couch. As long as you’re not expecting to vacuum your whole home, it does an excellent job of filling every other need.
