Cheetos’ VR game traps players in cheesy blobs

Cheetos’ Chesterville gives fans a chance to resurrect an old flavor

Cheetos' Chesterville

Cheetos is officially in the Metaverse.

Last week, the popular corn puff snack brand launched its first-ever virtual reality (VR) experience called Chesterville. Riddled with all sorts of tricks, the digital suburban neighborhood gives fans a chance to bring an old flavor back to life in the real world.

How to play Cheetos’ Chesterville

Set inside the free app Meta Horizon Worlds, Chesterville is a mischief-maker’s dream where players can embrace their inner Chester Cheetah by stirring up some Halloween mischief.

Players who enter Chesterville can simply explore the spooky neighborhood or challenge themselves to play a game. The main objective of the game is to gain access to the spooky mansion that looms atop Cheetos Hill. Players who will make it to the mansion will get a chance to help resurrect a long-dead flavor back to life in the real world for a limited run.

Getting into the mansion, however, won’t be easy, as players need to rack up points on their “mischief meter” to come closer to their destination. To earn points, players must complete tasks around Chesterville, with the help of the following mischievous tools called Mischief Makers:

  • Chester’s Wand to brand the neighborhood.
  • Cheetle-fied Paper Towels to go TP’ing Chester-style.
  • Flamin’ Hot Cheetos to get a speed boost with the Flamin’ Hot Cheetos accelerator.
  • Mac-O-Lanterns to smash and trap other players in cheesy blobs of new Cheetos Mac ‘N Cheese.

Aside from causing mischief in Chesterville with the help of Mischief Makers, players can also unlock Cheetle Codes from the snack brand’s social media accounts to find out other ways to help them progress in the game.

Fans can experience Chesterville in Meta Horizon Worlds on Meta Quest 2.

What flavors can fans resurrect?

Players will pick from one of three fan-favorite flavors to resurrect for a limited run. Those flavors are Flamin’ Hot Chipotle Ranch, Flamin’ Hot Pepper Puffs, and Nashville Hot snacks.

Fans who are not into VR games can also vote. They can head to CheetosChesterville.com where they share their flavor pick through November 2nd. Cheetos will announce the winning flavor on social media before it reappears in the real world in early 2023, for a limited time to those who participate.

“As a culture-first brand committed to innovative consumer experiences, Cheetos is proud to lead Frito-Lay into the metaverse,” said Stacy Taffet, senior vice president of marketing for Frito-Lay. “This is a significant moment for both the brand and the portfolio as we broaden the ways we engage with fans, inviting them to experience Cheetos in an entirely new way. We can’t wait to welcome consumers into Chester’s virtual domain that brings his personality and Cheetos’ brand ethos to life.”
