In late 2024, the Lenovo Tab Plus arrived as a low-cost Android tablet with a little extra — namely, an eight-speaker sound system, making it a compelling family entertainment device at just $300. The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 is now on the way, and for $100 more, there are improvements across the board, including a more flexible rotating 360-degree kickstand, one more speaker, and a bigger, better, brighter display. It’s one to watch if you’re looking for a solid entertainment tablet.
Here’s one more improvement — Gen 2 looks a lot cooler. Cheap Android tablets have a particular look to them, and Gen 1 had it. On the updated model, a silver color, a slimmer build, and thinner bezels help the tablet look a lot nicer without the price hiking up to match.

The new kickstand gives the tablet a pop of personality, too. Gen 2 has a center speaker unit on the back, with a kickstand ring that surrounds it. That kickstand ring can be popped out, rotated, and tilted. Instead of the traditional kickstand on Gen 1, this one can be used to hang the tablet or prop it up in portrait or landscape orientations at any angle. We were able to get hands on with the device, and the hinge feels sturdy and holds its position reliably.
The Tab Plus Gen 2 has a 9-speaker system tuned by JBL and with Dolby Atmos processing, giving it a bigger sound or far better bass response than any other Android tablet at this price. With the more flexible hinge and JBL’s sound expertise, Lenovo figured they had another 2-in-1 on their hands. Gen 2 has a dedicated Bluetooth speaker mode that can accept input from other devices. That’s probably not relevant at home, where the tablet will be connected to Wi-Fi, but it does mean you can take it out to picnics and the like and use it with a phone, which is a cool little extra.
The display has also gotten a big upgrade. For starters, it’s larger, going from 11 inches to a 12.1-inch 2.5k display. It’s not OLED (not surprising at $400), but at 800 nits of brightness, it gets bright enough to be able to support HDR10. It’s also got Dolby Vision processing behind it, so movies will look a little brighter and sharper this time around.

The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 chipset, with the base model getting 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. At higher prices, the tablet can be configured with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Storage is a little on the low side, but there is a microSD card slot that can expand storage by up to 2TB. The tablet will have a 10,200mAh battery with support for 45W charging adapters.
Rounding out the spec sheet is an 8MP fixed-focus selfie camera, a 13MP rear camera with auto-focus, Wi-Fi 6 support, and Bluetooth 5.4 support.
The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 will launch with Android 16 installed. Lenovo is promising two OS upgrades (up to Android 18) and four years of security patches. We’d love to see tablets in general get a bit more long-term support than that.
Lenovo says that the Tab Plus Gen 2 should be launching globally very soon, starting at $400 for the 6GB RAM/128GB storage model. After getting hands on with it, the new kickstand is a fantastic add and works really well, and the overall design is much more pleasing than the first generation — it’s something that folks won’t mind having out at home. The better display and sound system should cement it as a great family entertainment device, great for everything from late-night bed binging to keeping the kids entertained.
