Neve Campbell had starred as Sidney Prescott in all five Scream movies since 1996. Unfortunately for fans, the actress won’t be returning for next year’s Scream 6, as she has just left the slasher franchise.
Why did Neve Campbell leave the Scream franchise?
In a statement released on Monday, Campbell revealed that she decided to exit the film series due to monetary reasons.
“Sadly, I won’t be making the next Scream film,” said the 48-years-old actress. “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. [But] I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
Campbell admitted that it’s a “very difficult decision” but she made it clear that he has nothing but love for all those who supported her during her entire time in the franchise. “To all my Scream fans, I love you,” the actress added. “You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”
Despite Campbell’s seemingly definitive statement, ComicBook.com reported that she may still end up appearing in Scream 6 if there will be a renegotiation of her deal.
Scream 6 cast
Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers), Jenna Ortega (Tara Carpenter), Melissa Barrera (Sam Carpenter), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy Meeks-Martin), and Mason Gooding (Chad Meeks-Martin), who all appeared in Scream 5 are all confirmed to appear in Scream 6.
Hayden Panettiere is also reprising her role as Kirby Reed in Scream 6. As fans can remember, Kirby is the sole teenage survivor of the Second Woodsboro Murders in 2011’s Scream 4. The said bloody incident has the highest body count and is the most violent massacre of all Ghostface killing sprees to date.
Additionally, Dermot Mulroney will be making his franchise debut in Scream 6 as a cop.
