A couple of months ago, TCL debuted its next-generation of smartphones with the new 20 series phones including the TCL 20 5G and the TCL 20 SE. Now the company is debuting three new devices to join the lineup — the TCL 20L, TCL 20L+, and the TCL 20 Pro 5G.
TCL 20 Pro 5G
TCL is calling the 20 Pro 5G the “best TCL phone to date.” It’s equipped with a curved 6.67-inch AMOLED display with NXTVISION 2.0 Intelligent Display technology. Utilizing its expertise in displays, TCL offers the second generation of its proprietary display tech which is designed to offer industry-leading color accuracy. Partnered with AI visual enhancement tech, the TCL 20 Pro 5G is able to recognize content and scenes and automatically adjust its display to provide the best image possible. Testing lab, DXOMARK, gave the TCL 20 Pro 5G’s display a rating of 89 which is a notch higher than the iPhone 12 Pro Max’s display rating.
For cameras, the TCL 20 Pro 5G houses a rear quad camera setup that consists of a 48-megapixel main with a Sony IMX582 sensor with optical image stabilization, a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5-megapixel macro, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Around the front is a 32-megapixel HDR-enabled camera for sharp and saturated selfies.
The cameras are also supported by a handful of software features including real-time bokeh, scene detection, Pro Mode, Super Macro Mode, slow-mo video, Super Night Mode, Video Bokeh, and more.
At the heart of the TCL 20 Pro 5G is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 750 5G processor supported by 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The device is capable of up to 1TB storage expansion via microSD card. It also ships with the TCL UI based on Android 11.
Lastly, for its battery, the TCL 20 Pro 5G houses a 4500mAh battery that supports up to 18W Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and up to 15W wireless charging. TCL says the battery can be charged to full in just 2 hours and can last up to 13 hours.
TCL’s next two phones act more like siblings than two different phone models. The TCL 20L+ is the choice for users who prioritize photography and style. The 20L+ is also the first phone to work with TÜV Rheinland-certified Circular Polarization Display technology sunglasses so users can see accurate color representation on their screens no matter the situation.
Created for “aspiring photographers on a budget” the TCL 20L+ is equipped with a high-definition 64-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel wide-angle, 2-megapixel macro, and 2-megapixel depth for its rear cameras. It’s also equipped with 2x lossless zoom, HDR support, face detection, scene detection 2.0, Google lens, and a Pro Mode. Around the front is a 16-megapixel selfie camera with an LCD flash, face beautification, HDR support, and more.
You’ll still be getting TCL’s NXTVISION display optimization with the device’s 6.67-inch FHD+ display. Internally, it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 processor supported by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It’s also expandable up to 1TB via microSD card.
One of the highlights of the TCL 20L+ is its design. The back panel is described as having “more than a million prismatic crystal pits to create a dazzling, light-reflective surface inspired by the Milky Way.” It’s not only beautifully designed, but it’s also resistant to fingerprints and scratches.
The battery on the TCL 20L+ is slightly larger than the Pro variant at 5,000mAh. Unlike the Pro version though, this device doesn’t support fast charging and can take up to 2.5 hours for a full charge using a 9V charger.
On the budget spectrum is the last of TCL’s newest offerings, the TCL 20L. Crafted as a budget-friendly option, the TCL 20L still packs a lot of the necessities and, of course, an impressive screen that also boasts of TÜV Rheinland-certified Circular Polarization Display technology.
You’re getting a lot of what the TCL 20L+ offers including a 6.67-inch FHD+ display, 5000mAh battery, 16-megapixel front camera, and a Snapdragon 662 processor. The 20L differs in its rear cameras which switch out the 64-megapixel main found on the 20L+ with a 48-megapixel one instead. The rest of the camera setup is similar including the 8-megapixel wide-angle, 2-megapixel macro, and 2-megapixel depth sensor.
Pricing and availability
The TCL 20L is the most affordable of the company’s newest offering with a starting price of €229. It will come in two RAM variants — 4GB or 6GB. Its bigger brother, the TCL 20L+ is priced at €269 and, lastly, the TCL 20 Pro 5G is priced at €549. These devices will be available starting April 15th, initially in the UK, Italy, and Portugal. It’s expected to reach other markets a couple of weeks after its initial release date.
