The final Divergent film will likely never happen 1

The Divergent franchise initially debuted as a trilogy of young adult dystopian novels penned by Veronica Roth. The series garnered enough attention from the public for Hollywood to take notice and offer all three books a movie deal. The first film of which, namely Divergent, was released in 2014 with its sequels, Insurgent and Allegiant, releasing in the succeeding years.

Following suit to novel adaptations, like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Twilight, the last book in the series was written to be released in two parts. In 2016, the first part of the finale, Allegiant, was released. This meant that the second and final part of the film should have been released in 2017.

But to this day, the final part of the Divergent trilogy has yet to be released. Producer Douglas Wick commented on a report on ComicBook saying that the final part “is definitely on hold. There’s no imminent news.”

Despite having quite the star-studded cast, the Divergent franchise sadly only fared average in the eyes of the critics and in box office numbers. The first two films barely broke the $300-million mark in worldwide sales while the third didn’t even reach $200-million. As a whole, the franchise was poorly received by critics.

Reports regarding the second part of the final book moving to TV started to surface soon after the Allegiance was released. At first, the news was circulating that the final part of the franchise would emerge as a TV movie but reports would, later on, claim that it would be ported as a series.

According to ScreenRant, at that time, Divergent star, Shailene Woodley, expressed her resentment with the rumors saying that she “didn’t sign up to be in a television show.” Fellow co-star Miles Teller expressed the same sentiment saying that he would decide once he has more details on the project.

With that, it remains to be seen if the Divergent series will ever get its ending. If the TV movie or series does push through, there may be a chance that we won’t be seeing some of the original cast members.
