Superman and Lois is staying at The CW.
Superman and Lois season 4 renewal
On Monday, June 12th, 2023, The CW announced that it has renewed Superman and Lois for a fourth season.
“We are thrilled to bring Superman and Lois back to The CW,” network president Brad Schwartz said in a statement, on the heels of also renewing All American: Homecoming for season 3. “These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. We are grateful to our partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for their continued collaboration, and we cannot wait to get started on the new seasons.”
Superman and Lois is one of the four original dramas that the CW renewed for the 2023-24 TV season. The other three are All American (season 6), Walker (season 4), and All American: Homecoming (season 3).
Unfortunately, the following CW shows have been canceled by the network and won’t be back for another season: Gotham Knights, Walker: Independence, The Winchesters, Kung Fu, and Two Sentence Horror Stories.
While Superman and Lois is already confirmed to return for another season, fans can expect some changes in the show as its season 4 renewal reportedly comes with budget cuts. Compared to the lower-license-fees model the CW is shifting to in pursuit of profitability, an effects-heavy superhero series like Superman and Lois has higher production costs, so to keep the show afloat, the network, as reported by Deadline, decided to trim the show’s fund.

Although that’s down 25 and 30 percent from its season 2 numbers, the DC Comics-based series ranks No. 2 in viewership and is in a five-way tie for second in the demo out of the 13 dramas that The CW has aired this TV Season.

What is Superman and Lois about?
Based on the DC Comics characters Superman and Lois Lane, created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman and Lois is a superhero drama television series developed for The CW by Todd Helbing and Greg Berlanti. The only surviving Arrowverse show, Superman and Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the title characters Clark Kent / Superman, Earth’s greatest superhero, and Lois Lane, a world-renowned journalist. Jordan Elsass and Alex Garfin portray the couple’s twin sons Jonathan and Jordan Kent, with Michael Bishop replacing the former in the third season.
The series follows Lois and Clark as they return to Smallville with their sons to raise them in a simpler setting. However, their idyllic lives are upended when a mysterious stranger enters town and the couple are forced to confront their greatest challenges yet. The series also explores the complexities of being a working parent in today’s society, as well as the challenges of raising children with superpowers.
Season 3 opens with Clark and Lois dealing with the aftermath of Ally Allston’s (Rya Kihlstedt) attack on Smallville. The Kent family is fractured, and Clark and Lois must find a way to work together to protect their children from a new threat. Meanwhile, Jordan and Jonathan are struggling to find their place in the world, and Sarah (Inde Navarrette) is dealing with the aftermath of her father’s death.
What will happen in Superman and Lois season 3 finale?
Details about the season 3 finale of Superman and Lois are limited but the synopsis for the episode reveals that Lex Luthor (Michael Cudlitz) makes its first move while “all of Smallville comes together to view a meteor shower.”
The CW President Brad Schwartz also teased during a recent interview that the season 3 finale of the show will end with a cliffhanger. “The ending this season is amazing,” Schwartz said. “You’ve got some Lex Luthor in there… I don’t want to give any spoilers, but the end of the season is great — and it’s got a bit of a cliffhanger.”
