Will there be a fourth season of The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico?

Has Roswell, New Mexico been canceled or renewed for season 4? 1

Roswell, New Mexico ended its season 3 run with a two-hour finale event last Monday, and if you’re wondering if the sci-fi drama is returning for another season, we’re happy to inform you that The CW had actually renewed the series for season 4 long before its season 3 premiere.

Officially announced by the network last February, Roswell, New Mexico season 4 started filming last August and is expected to wrap principal photography in January 2022. While The CW has yet to set a return date for the show, the upcoming season is expected to premiere next year on the same schedule as season 3.

Unlike Roswell, New Mexico’s first two season finales, the show’s season 3 ender concluded on a hopeful note, so most of the characters are expected to be back for season 4, including Sanders (Nicholas Ballas), who was last seen dropping to the ground following an encounter with villain Jones (Nathan Dean) in the season 3 finale.

Roswell, New Mexico writers confirmed via Twitter that Sanders is alive, so fans can expect to see him back in action next season. “Sanders is ok he’s been through worse,” read the tweet from the show’s writers.

Though plot details about Roswell, New Mexico season 4 are being kept under wraps, executive producer Chris Hollier told TVLine last week that viewers will know more about the naked woman who was wandering the streets of Careyes at the end of the season 3 finale. Nothing is known about the character, aside from the fact that she’s looking for Liz (Jeanine Mason) for help.

“That’s definitely what it presents like,” Hollier said of the woman possibly being an alien. “You can never trust what your first image is, but I look forward to people speculating for a couple of months. I can say that she will be back in season 4.”

More details will also be revealed about Allie, a mysterious character played by Shiri Appleby, who was actually the original Liz from The WB’s Roswell. First appeared in the season 3 finale, Allie vaguely claimed that Mason’s Liz was a student of hers.

“We’ve been having discussions about this since episode 10 of last year,” Hollier told TVLine of Appleby’s onscreen comeback to the franchise. “We reached out to her, we started talking about how to fold her into the show, and pitched her a mini arc. She said, ‘I love it! I’ll come out and do it.’ We know the fans are going to love that moment.”

Lastly, Hollier teased a full-on love triangle between Kyle (Michael Trevino), Isobel (Lily Cowles), and Anatsa (Sibongile Mlambo) in season 4. “Romance is about longing, which is why every song on the radio is about getting the person, not necessarily keeping the person,” said Hollier. “So we wanted to explore a new potential pairing with complications that arise. And sometimes you have two really good options! Anatsa’s great, but Kyle and Isobel also have chemistry. So who do you root for there? We want Isobel to be happy, so who’s going to be able to do that?”
