Subway launched a new streamlined menu featuring 12 sandwiches that can be ordered by name or number.
Called the Subway Series, this lineup of new sandwiches features the perfect combination of meat, cheese, fresh vegetables, sauce, and freshly baked bread, allowing customers to explore new options beyond their go-to build-your-own customization.
Launched in July 2022, the new Subway Series clubs are actually inspired by the sandwich chain’s Eat Fresh Refresh ad campaign, which introduced more than 20 new and refreshed ingredients to the company’s menu in 2021. Since the launch of that campaign, the restaurant’s team of culinary experts had spent more than a year testing hundreds of recipes featuring those ingredients to create the 12 sandwiches that earned a coveted spot in the Subway Series menu.

The new Subway Series sandwiches are categorized into four groups (Cheesesteaks, Italianos, Chicken, and Clubs), with each category consisting of three sandwiches. Below are the names of the sandwiches, their respective menu number, and short description:
Cheesesteaks
#1 The Philly
A classic cheesesteak with steak, melted cheese, and onions.
#2 The Outlaw
A spicy cheesesteak with steak, pepper jack cheese, jalapeños, and chipotle Southwest sauce.
#3 The Monster
A double cheesesteak with steak, double Monterey cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, green peppers, and red onions.
Italianos
#4 Supreme Meats
A meat lover’s sub with salami, pepperoni, ham, and provolone cheese.
#5 Bella Mozza
A sub with mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, black olives, banana peppers, and Italian dressing.
#6 The Boss
A sub with meatballs, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and Parmesan cheese.
Chicken
#7 The MexiCali
A sub with rotisserie-style chicken, pepper jack cheese, jalapeños, guacamole, and ranch dressing.
#8 The Great Garlic
A sub with rotisserie-style chicken, crispy bacon, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onions, and creamy roasted garlic aioli.
#9 The Champ
A sub with buffalo chicken, ranch dressing, lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheddar cheese.
Clubs
#10 All-American Club
A sub with turkey, ham, bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, and mayonnaise.
#11 Subway Club
A sub with turkey, ham, roast beef, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, and mayo.
#12 Turkey Cali Club
A sub with turkey, mozzarella cheese, bacon, sliced avocado, spinach, tomatoes, onions, and mayonnaise.

While all 12 sandwiches are new to the chain’s menu, some of them are essentially updated versions of old sandwiches, now with greater taste and better complementary flavors. For example, the Meatball Marinara sandwich is now called The Boss, which features precooked meatballs in marinara sauce, with fresh mozzarella and pepperoni. These fillings are piled on toasted Italian Herbs & Cheese bread for a classy, old-world eating experience.
The new Subway Series enhances the entire subway guest experience, as it introduces a new ordering system that makes it easier for customers to order, thereby shortening the ordering timeframe. Instead of picking your ingredients and toppings throughout the ordering process, the significant menu update lets customers simply say their sandwich’s name or its menu number and choose whether they’re having the six-inch or footlong version. As usual, the sandwiches can be made with bread, wrap, or have their topping placed on a bed of lettuce. Add-ons are still very much welcome.
“The Subway Series is the most ambitious undertaking in company history, as we are changing the nearly 60-year-old blueprint that helped make Subway a global phenomenon,” said Trevor Haynes, President, North America at Subway, in a statement in 2022.
Free Subway Series sandwich
While Subway still allows the custom creation of sandwiches, the chain wants fans across the United States to try the Subway Series sandwiches. So as part of the new menu’s promotion, the chain gave away one million free 6-inch Subway Series subs across the country on July 12, 2022. Guests who visited a participating location on the launch date from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. got to pick one free sandwich from the 12 Subway Series subs.
Dropping sales
The new and better Subway sandwich menu is part of the company’s overall plan to boost its dwindling sales. Though the chain does not publicly disclose sales figures, research firm Technomic reported that sales at roughly 21,000 Subway restaurants in America have been dropping in the past few years. Based on Technomic analysis, the chain’s sales fell to $9.4 billion in 2021.
System-wide sales at the restaurant’s U.S. locations were $12.3 billion in 2013, which was the chain’s best year in the past 15 years.
Moreover, according to the company’s website, the chain’s number of locations in the country has also declined for the fifth consecutive year to 20,746.
