It’s happening all around and everywhere you look old classics are making a comeback. Storz & Bickel has an almost two-decade history of producing the iconic Volcano desktop vaporizer and is considered by many vape aficionados to be the holy grail. Storz & Bickel’s newest desktop unit, aptly named Volcano Hybrid, continues the tradition by giving users the choice between a tube style whip or a balloon to enjoy their favorite herbs or concentrates. The vaporizer’s convection heating, digital touch display and smartphone companion app are just a few of the key features that put the Volcano Hybrid in a class of its own.

As we placed the vaporizer on our coffee table for the first time, we quickly felt the Volcano Hybrid’s premium quality and sturdiness in our hands. We appreciated how intuitive and simple it was to set up straight out of the box. Using the smartphone companion app made it easy and convenient to have complete control of the vaporizer from across the room and it even updated our Volcano’s internal software. The app also came preloaded with three customizable workflows that we used to store our favorite session routines.

We were blown away the first time we used the Volcano Hybrid and thoroughly enjoyed the flavorful and potent clouds of vapor produced from our favorite herbs. The Volcano Hybrid heated up quickly, but not too fast, which was perfect as it gave us time to prep the balloon for filling. It was quite a sight to watch the clear balloon fill up with thick white vapor for the first time and it had us jumping out our seats for more. Using herbal concentrates required less material resulting in a less cloudy filled bag but still delivered smooth and silky vapor that packed a punch. We found it best to keep a window open as we quickly noticed a very strong herbal aroma left in the air from the Volcano Hybrid.

Using the tube whip had a very natural feeling like sipping through a straw and worked great when we wanted to just kick back and relax on the couch for the evening with no intention of getting up for a while. While we did enjoy using the tube whip, the balloon is what really made the experience unique because it essentially transforms into a portable handheld vape that you can continue to use while walking around your home. We found that the Volcano Hybrid continued to live up to its stellar reputation whether we were using it with a group of friends or as a solo session.

Bottom line

While it’s true that the Volcano Hybrid is one of the most expensive vaporizers on the market, don’t let the $699 price tag scare you away because it is absolutely worth every penny. Tech products aren’t normally considered “Buy It for Life” but with consistent firmware updates and routine maintenance, this desktop vaporizer could probably last a lifetime. While other desktop vaporizers on the market like the Arizer Extreme Q, Silver Surfer and Cloud EVO fall into the $200-400 price range, few if any can compare to the masterpiece of German engineering that is the Volcano Hybrid.
