The first-ever Star Wars-inspired Tamagotchi has been unveiled and it features R2-D2 as a virtual pet.
Set to be officially released on November 11th, the Star Wars R2-D2 Tamagotchi lets fans interact with the beloved astromech droid using the Tamagotchi play pattern with a Star Wars story. From its time at the Droid Factory to the player’s possession, R2-D2 needs to be charged (feed), wiped (keep happy), and cleaned. If neglected for too long, R2-D2 stands the risk of being taken away by Jawas.
Featuring cute animations of the smart and spunky droid, the Star Wars R2-D2 Tamagotchi is loaded with various interactive experiences, including two default mini games called Fire Fighting and Dejarik, aka holochess. Seven more mini games will be unlocked as players train R2-D2 to master 19 different skills.
Measuring about 1 1/2-inches tall, 1 1/5-inches wide, and 1-inch long, the Star Wars R2-D2 Tamagotchi comes packaged in a blister card packaging. It is available in standard white and blue shells and already includes 2 LR-44 batteries.
“Star Wars has proven to be a timeless franchise and one that fans are eager to continue exploring, which makes it an absolute thrill to be able to incorporate it into the Tamagotchi experience,” said Takayoshi Oyama, Business Management Team manager at Bandai, in a statement. “The R2-D2 Tamagotchi is an epic collaboration to be a part of and we can’t wait to see how fans of the franchise react to this out-of-this-world device!”
The Star Wars R2-D2 Tamagotchi is now available for preorder for $20.99 at Entertainment Earth with shipping slated for December.
