SLING TV will now start offering free local, over-the-air (OTA) channels to select LG TVs fitted with an OTA antenna. With an average of about 44 local channels, SLING will allow users to access them directly through the SLING TV guide.

The company only mentions the use of a compatible 2020 LG Smart TV for this new free service. Additional requirements include the purchase of an OTA antenna and that the TV is running webOS 5.0 as its software.

The availability of channels, which include the likes of ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and PBS, will depend on the user’s location. SLING provides a local channel finder tool to help its customers determine what exactly can be accessed.

To add OTA channels, users simply have to complete a one-time channel scanning process found on their TVs. A successful scan will allow users to add local channels to SLING TV’s “My Channels” for easy access.

SLING says that users can save up to $75 a month when switching from regular cable to their service. There was no mention from the company on whether or not this service will extend to different brands of smart TVs in the future.
