The smart fridge was just the beginning. The smart home very much includes the kitchen, and at CES 2023, Samsung is showing off their whole vision of the kitchen as a family hub. The Samsung smart kitchen includes new smart fridges and a smart oven, with some SmartThings aid during the cooking process. The lineup comprises the Bespoke 4-Door Flex with Family Hub+ refrigerator, Bespoke Side-by-Side and Top-Mounted Freezer refrigerator, and Bespoke AI Oven.
Samsung Bespoke 4-Door Flex with Family Hub+
The new Samsung Bespoke 4-Door Flex with Family Hub+ has a larger 32-inch FHD screen. The previous iteration had a smaller display that made for an awkward kind of bezel on the fridge door — the display stretches across most of the width of the door now, giving the whole package a more modern look. As before, the fridge can act as a SmartThings hub, enabling control of other smart home devices from the center of the home.
While it’s not a fully-fledged TV, it’s getting there. The display can be used with Samsung TV Plus, which now includes over 190 free channels. But, most often we see it being used to display family photos or recipes when it’s time to cook dinner — and, inevitably, cooking tutorial videos when things start going south.
The Bespoke 4-Door Flex with Family Hub+ will be coming to the Samsung smart kitchen in North America starting in the first half of 2023.
Samsung Bespoke Side-By-Side and Top-Mounted Freezer Refrigerators
If you’re good with your refrigerator not having a screen, the Samsung Bepoke Side-by-Side Refrigerator or Top-Mounted Freezer Refrigerator might be more your thing for your Samsung smart kitchen. The Bespoke Side-by-Side refrigerator is still every bit a luxury appliance, and you know it because you don’t have to tug the door to open — it’ll open automatically with a tap.
The Bespoke Top-Mounted Freezer Refrigerator specializes in keeping food fresh and safe longer, with filtration systems that are much more effective than average at killing bacteria thanks to Samsung’s Optimal Fresh Zone+ Active Fresh Filter technologies.
But, it’s the efficiency options that might be more important in the face of rising energy costs. Both refrigerators can use SmartThings Energy’s AI Energy Mode will adjust the compressor speed and frequency of the defrost cycle based on your habits and ambient environment, ensuring it only draws power when it needs to. These refrigerators will come to Thailand first in March, but they will both see global releases.
Samsung Bespoke AI Oven
What’s right at the top of the list when it comes to smart oven features? You guessed it — the oven will yell at you when you’re about to burn something! The Bespoke AI Oven actually has an internal camera it uses to detect when food is about to burn, giving you a notification if food reaches the danger zone.
But, it goes a little deeper than that. The oven’s AI features can recognize different kinds of food and offer time, temperature, and cooking mode recommendations. If you use those, the oven will have a full picture of what’s going on, and can notify you well in advance of when what’s cooking is perfectly done. Combine that with the display on the fridge for displaying recipes and more SmartThings smart home cooking aids, and you’ve got the whole Samsung smart kitchen package when it comes time to make sure dinner doesn’t turn into a call to the local pizza joint.
Samsung’s SmartThings Cooking and Samsung Health integrations power meal recommendations on the oven to help users stick to their diet and workout goals. Meanwhile, the Bespoke AI Oven’s Wi-Fi support allows users to connect to the oven remotely to monitor their meals using the camera, preheat the oven, etc. And you know there’s a streamer angle to that — food influencers can use that internal oven camera to provide their viewers with a live look inside the oven.
The Samsung Bespoke AI Oven will be available for purchase in North America in Q3 2023.
