Alienware is updating its Area-51m laptop and the latest model is a beast. Weighing in at about 10 pounds, the Alienware Area-51m R2 is definitely a large but, ultimately, a really powerful laptop. It’s equipped with a 17.3-inch 4K UHD 60Hz display with Tobii Eyetracking technology. Ideally, gaming displays are best at a higher refresh rate than that, but, in order to achieve that, you’ll have to sacrifice on some specs like resolution. For those who insist on a higher refresh rate, the Area-51m R2 does offer a 300Hz screen but with a full HD resolution.
This gaming beast houses nothing less than 10th Gen Core S-series processors that can be configured up to the 10th Gen Intel Core i9 10900K with Thermal Velocity Boost. These new processors are the first mobile processors to break the 5GHz frequency barrier in laptops. It’s also supported by up to 64GB Dual Channel DDR4 RAM.
The Alienware Area-51m R2 offers a total of 3 storage options: single storage, dual storage, and Raid0 Plus. There are also different variations for each of the three options. For single storage, you can get a maximum of 2TB SSD while dual storage allows for up to 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD. Raid storage options can be maxed out to 1TB RAID for boot and 1TB SSD for non-boot storage. Additionally, the Area-51m R2 also offers dual raid storage options that can be maxed out to a total of 4TB Raid0 that consists of two 2TB SSDs.
Additional hardware features include stereo speakers, a media card reader, a single Thunderbolt 3 port, a USB Type-C port, an Alienware Graphics Amplifier port, and Killer Wi-Fi 6. The laptop also has the Alienware mSeries per-key AlienFX RGB keyboard with 1.7mm key travel, anti-ghosting, and N-key rollover technology.
Graphic options allow you to choose between an NVIDIA GeForce RTX SUPER and AMD Radeon RX 5700M. Devices that will carry the AMD graphics option include 7-phase graphics voltage regulation. The highest graphics configuration for the Area-51m R2 will house a 12-phase HyperEfficient Voltage Regulation, a first in the market.
The Alienware Area-51m R2 also packs in an updated cooling system to keep up the performance of the laptop. It’s equipped with Alienware’s Cryo-Tech cooling technology that consists of 53 GPU fan blades, 3 copper-alloy heat pipes, and about 700g of copper-allow material. Additionally, devices that carry the AMD graphics option will also have Vapor Chamber cooling technology.
The Alienware Area-51m R2 will be available starting June 9th, with a starting price of $3,049. It will come in two color variants: Dark Side of the Moon and Lunar Light.
