Picard season 3 teaser reunites The Next Generation cast

What to expect from Picard season 3

Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Picard season 3 sneak peek

Last April, it was revealed that Patrick Stewart will be joined by some of his Star Trek: The Next Generation cast members in Star Trek: Picard season 3. While it remains unclear how exactly their characters will end up working together again, a recently released video teaser for the third and final season of the show suggests that the former crew of the USS Enterprise will come together for a rescue mission.

Star Trek: Picard season 3 trailer

Paramount+ has yet to release the official trailer for Picard season 3, but the streamer dropped the first sneak peek at the show’s final season during its Star Trek Day livestream event last September 8th.

The sneak peek opens with a Federation-looking starship being approached by an incoming space vehicle. The video then cuts to Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) holding off some masked men with a rifle. This is quickly followed by a scene with Jean-Luc Picard (Stewart) receiving an appeal for help from Crusher. “This message is for Admiral Jean-Luc Picard. We need your help,” Crusher says in the message.

After showing a Federation building imploding, the sneak peek finds Picard meeting up with William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes) to discuss his plan.

“I need to find the ship,” Picard tells Riker, seemingly referring to the ship carrying Crusher.

“We need to find the ship,” Frakes answers.

When Picard says he can’t afford to put anyone in danger, a man’s voice can be heard saying, “Jean Luc, wherever you go, we go.”

The teaser then flashes a montage of other returning The Next Generation characters, including Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), Worf (Michael Dorn), and Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi), as well as returning Picard character Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd). After which, Picard and Riker are shown coming aboard the USS Titan, with the starship’s captain, Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), warmly welcoming them.

Notably absent from the teaser is Brent Spiner, who was announced as one of the cast members of Picard season 3 last April. While it’s unclear why he’s not featured in the teaser, his absence from the video suggests that he might only have a minor role in season 3 or the show is simply keeping his seemingly brand-new character under wraps.

In The Next Generation, Spiner played Data ― a role he reprised in Picard season 1. Aside from reprising Data in Picard, Spiner also portrayed Dr. Altan Inigo Soong and Adam Soong in the show’s first two seasons, so it won’t be surprising if the actor ended up playing another brand-new role in season 3.

Denise Crosby, who played Tasha Yar in The Next Generation, also hinted that her Star Trek character will appear in Picard season 3. When asked if she will be part of Picard season 3 at last month’s 56-Year Mission Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas, the actress said, “Oh. I don’t want to give away too much. But I’m going to tell you that you will see Tasha Yar, but I’m not going to tell you how. You’ve got to watch.”

Terry Matalas teases Star Trek: Picard season 3

Showrunner Terry Matalas previously teased that the show’s final season will feature a universe-altering event. In a cover feature for SFX magazine ahead of the season 2 premiere of Picard, Matalas revealed that the Star Trek universe won’t be the same again after the show’s season 3. “Definitely in season 3, there are some game-changing Star Trek universe ideas,” Matalas said at the time.

He added that some elements from Star Trek: The Original Series and the films starring the original series cast would be used in Picard season 3 to “tie some Star Trek together,” including the Spacedock and boatswain’s whistle from those films, and other references to their “more nautical, cat and mouse submarine-movie” ideas.

Star Trek: Picard season 3 release date

Picard season 3 is set to premiere on Paramount+ on February 16th and run for 10 episodes until April 20th.
