Motorola has just confirmed that a foldable Razr is in the works. We first reported on the purposed revival in January. Now we can officially report that Motorola is shooting for a 2019 release.
The company has yet to announce an official release date, however, insiders say it’ll be “no later than everybody else,” leaving many to assume somewhere between mid to late-2019.
According to sources, the upcoming Razr will “not feature a full-sized screen on the outside of the device like we’ve seen with the Galaxy Fold and Mate X.” Instead, “a recent patent filing illustrates this folding mechanism as horizontal, much like Motorola’s RAZR flip phone.”
Samsung will start rolling out the first consumer-ready foldable phone in the coming weeks. Market analysts predict Huawei’s foldable device will hit shelves shortly thereafter. If history serves, we can expect Motorola to make an unveil in (or around) August.
Whether or not the telecom giant can reenergize the Razr brand by making it foldable has yet to be seen. Nevertheless, the novelty of the design gives us hope that a new era is among us.
