Modelo is celebrating its longstanding partnership with the Brooklyn Nets with a sneaker collaboration designed by New York-based footwear artist Dan “Mache” Gamache.
Modelo exports the pilsner-style lager Modelo Especial to the U.S., and to celebrate the beverage’s status as the “Official Import Beer of the Brooklyn Nets,” the Mexico-based brewery tapped Mache to create the Modelo Especial x Brooklyn Nets sneaker.
Mache, who has been customizing shoes for almost 20 years in New York, was recruited by Modelo to do the job because he shares the brewery’s values of hard work, perseverance, resilience, and celebration, which are all part of Modelo’s “Fighting Spirit” mantra.

The limited-edition low-top shoe features hand-painted Modelo and Brooklyn Nets logos on the heels. Mache used gold coloring for Modelo’s lion logo to represent the brewery’s signature gold foil. He also incorporated New York subway lines into the design as a nod to all loyal fans who take the subway to the Barclays Center to watch the Brooklyn Nets play.
For a chance to win one of only 15 pairs of the custom Modelo x Brooklyn Nets sneaker, fans must enter the Modelo Nets Sneaker Giveaway Sweepstakes via ModeloSneakers.com. The sweepstakes, however, is only open to legal U.S. residents residing in New York who are 21 or older at the time of entry. The website will accept entries until 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, April 30th.

Mache’s sneaker collaboration with Modelo comes a few weeks after the artist’s partnership with the tea and juice brand Brisk. Last month, Mache and Brisk unveiled a limited-edition sneaker based on the beverage brand’s newly launched Zero Sugar Iced Tea.
