Taco Bell has temporarily removed the Mexican Pizza from its menu, less than two weeks after the fast-food chain brought back the fan-favorite dish.
Why are there no more Mexican Pizzas?
Taco Bell is running out of Mexican Pizzas due to high demand. In an FAQ on the chain’s website, the company revealed that “demand for the Mexican Pizza was seven times higher than when it was last on menus.”
In a separate letter to fans, Taco Bell said that it didn’t expect the return of the Mexican Pizza to be this big. “Our restaurant teams trained weeks for what we knew would be a big return. We just didn’t realize how big,” the chain admitted, before sharing that one fan bought 180 Mexican Pizzas in a single order and a restaurant in Roseville, California sold over 1,000 in just one day.
“Mexican Pizza fans from around the country came together. To celebrate. To reminisce. And to eat! You just happened to eat them all,” the company joked in the letter. “We knew you loved the Mexican Pizza. We just didn’t know how many of you loved the Mexican Pizza. Now, we need a lot more Mexican Pizzas, and that’s exactly what we’ll get.”
Turns out we underestimated how many of you love Mexican Pizza. 7x more than we expected, to be exact. We are working as fast as we can to restock Mexican Pizza ingredients. We’ll need some time to replenish our supplies, but when it comes back, we promise it’s here to stay.

When will the Mexican Pizza be back?
Taco Bell has yet to set an exact return date for the Mexican Pizza, noting that “replenishing the beloved menu item is taking longer” than the chain would like. The company, however, did note that they plan to bring the Mexican Pizza back to its menu as a permanent offering this fall.
What’s in a Taco Bell Mexican Pizza?
Originally called Pizzazz Pizza, the menu item – first introduced in 1985 – is made up of two crispy flour shells, layered with beans, pizza sauce, seasoned beef, tomatoes, and a melted three cheese blend, all for $4.49. Fans can make it a combo with a Mexican Pizza, two Crunchy Tacos, and a Large Fountain Drink for $8.99. The Mexican Pizza is also available vegetarian without the seasoned beef.
The decision to remove the Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell’s menu in 2020 was part of the chain’s plan to streamline its offerings. The goal of that menu streamlining was to make the chain’s kitchens more efficient and to significantly cut down its packaging waste.
When did the Mexican Pizza come back?
Taco Bell relaunched the Mexican Pizza last month, making it exclusively available for members of the Taco Bell Rewards program on May 17th, before making it available to everyone on May 19th.
What happened to Mexican Pizza: The Musical?

The event, which will tell the Mexican Pizza fan story in a song, was supposed to premiere live on TikTok on May 26th. But due to the Mexican Pizza shortage, Taco Bell decided to postpone the event. The new premiere date has yet to be announced.
