McDonald’s is auctioning off a $90,000 Golden Shamrock Shake cup

It’s made with high polish 18K gold and 150 precious stones

McDonald’s is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its fan-favorite drink Shamrock Shake, and to make the occasion extra special, the fast food chain is auctioning off a hand-crafted, luxurious cup, designed to perfectly hold the iconic minty green beverage.

Valued at $90,000, the chalice is made with high polish 18K gold and 150 precious stones. Representing 50 years of Shamrock Shake flavor and the drink’s delicious whipped topping, 50 green emeralds and white diamonds encircle the rim and the foot of the cup. There are also 50 yellow diamonds in each of the two Golden Arches of the cup, representing Shamrock Shake’s 50 years of being a fan-favorite at McDonald’s.

Launched in the morning of February 25th with a starting bid price of $1, the auction will run until March 6th at 5:00 a.m. ET. All proceeds from the winning bid will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), a non-profit corporation that creates, finds, and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families.

“The Shamrock Shake holds a special place in the history of Ronald McDonald House Charities, and we’re excited to partner with McDonald’s as they celebrate 50 years of this iconic favorite,” Chief Marketing and Development Officer, RMHC, Kelly Dolan said in a statement. “The Golden Shamrock Shake auction is an exciting way to support our mission and help keep even more families together and near the medical care their child needs, when they need it most. We’re grateful for the generous bidders who participate.”

Aside from the winning bidder, one lucky customer who orders a Shamrock Shake or Oreo Shamrock McFlurry through the McDonald’s app from February 25th to March 6th will also take home a Golden Shamrock Shake cup.
