McDonald’s is taking its drink lineup in a bold new direction, and caffeine fans may want to pay attention. Starting next week, the fast-food giant is stepping into the energy drink space with a fruity Red Bull-infused drink, while also offering standalone Red Bull cans at participating locations. But what exactly is in the new custom blend, and what other options will customers have? Here’s everything you need to know about McDonald’s latest beverage additions.

McDonald’s introduces Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer

McDonald’s is building on the popularity of its crafted sodas and refreshers with another major addition to its beverage lineup. Beginning August 17, customers can try the Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer, marking the fast-food chain’s first move into the energy drink category.

The new drink pairs Red Bull with blue raspberry syrup and freeze-dried dragonfruit pieces, creating a bright, fruit-forward beverage with an energizing kick. Customers looking for a lower-sugar option can swap the regular Red Bull base for Red Bull Zero, while those who prefer to enjoy the energy drink on its own can purchase an 8.4-ounce Red Bull can at participating McDonald’s locations.

Alyssa Buetikofer, McDonald’s USA’s chief marketing and customer experience officer, said the company has seen strong interest in its crafted sodas and refreshers as customers seek more choices for different occasions. She added that the Red Bull Dragonberry Energizer received an enthusiastic response during its initial U.S. test, encouraging McDonald’s to bring the drink to customers nationwide.

The launch could signal the beginning of a broader push into energy-focused beverages for McDonald’s, with the company hinting that more developments may be on the way.

America’s growing appetite for energy

McDonald’s timing couldn’t be better. The fast-food chain’s move into energy drinks capitalizes on a massive shift in American beverage habits, where functional, high-caffeine sips are rapidly taking market share from traditional sodas and drip coffee.

According to industry data from Grand View Research, the U.S. energy drink market reached an estimated $22 billion in 2025, with North America dominating global consumption. Fueled by busy work schedules, fitness culture, and a booming Gen Z demand for vibrant, customizable flavors, the category is projected to grow at over 8% annually through 2033.

Market intelligence firm Mintel highlights that modern consumers aren’t just looking for a simple caffeine fix — they want “functional indulgence.” Drinkers increasingly seek customizable sugar levels, natural fruit infusions, and hybrid drinks that offer both an aesthetic thrill and a sustained productivity boost. By partnering with industry titan Red Bull to deliver lower-sugar swaps alongside colorful, Instagram-ready fruit blends, McDonald’s is directly targeting a nation that is increasingly running on high-potency, custom-crafted fuel.

McDonald’s upgrades its crafted soda lineup

While the Red Bull partnership is making headlines, energy seekers aren’t the only ones getting a menu upgrade on August 17. McDonald’s is also giving its fountain lineup a major makeover, expanding its “crafted soda” menu to satisfy classic soft drink loyalists.

Headlining the new offerings is the Vanilla Swirl, a long-requested creation designed for cola purists. The drink combines a smooth shot of vanilla flavor with your choice of Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, or Coke Zero Sugar, all crowned with a dollop of creamy cold foam — marking the first time fan-favorite diet and zero-sugar colas are getting the gourmet treatment.

Customers can also find other crafted soda options at participating locations, including the Orange Dream made with Fanta. McDonald’s is further expanding its reduced-sugar selection with new crafted sodas featuring Diet Dr Pepper, Dr Pepper Zero Sugar and Sprite Zero Sugar.

From custom high-octane energy boosts to cold-foam-topped cola upgrades, McDonald’s is making one thing crystal clear: the age of the plain soda cup is officially over. Whether you need a serious midday jolt or a personalized sweet treat, August 17 marks the start of a whole new era at the drive-thru —a nd your daily drink run will never be the same.
