Mario Kart Tour for iOS and Android finally has a release date. There have also been a variety of new details released about the title, with a few surprises tossed in for long-term fans of the series.
Perhaps the most notable is that instead of Rainbow Road and many other fan-favorite courses, Mario Kart Tour will heavily feature tracks based on real-world cities. While some well-known courses will still be included in the game, New York, Los Angeles, and a few other places will be featured prominently.
Nick Chavez, Nintendo’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, spoke about the upcoming release, saying:
“For the first time ever in a Mario Kart game, players can drive past giant Warp Pipes while drifting through a New York-inspired cityscape, all with the swipe of a finger. Whether you’re an experienced Mario Kart pro or just getting your Mushroom Kingdom driver’s license, Mario Kart Tour is a game for everyone that brings some of Nintendo’s most beloved characters into the hands of players around the world.”
Alongside the new details about the game, Nintendo has also released both a teaser trailer and a gameplay trailer, highlighting many of the new courses that players can take advantage of. Similar to each other edition in the Mario Kart franchise, Tour will allow players to choose between a variety of characters, gliders, and carts, and many of these choices will be unlockable by completing a variety of tasks.
Mario Kart Tour will be available for iOS and Android devices starting on September 25th. It should be noted that players will need a Nintendo Account to play the game. Pre-orders are available now at the Apple App store and Google Play store.
