Disney has had quite a strong lineup of live-action adaptation films coming over the next few months. With the sheer volume of movies that are set to be released, there are a few that have kind of flown under the radar. Chief among these is the Maleficent sequel, entitled ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’ and its second trailer just dropped.
Angelina Jolie returns in the titular role, as well as Elle Fanning, who played the character of Aurora in the previous installment. The addition of Michelle Pfeiffer in a newly created role is featured prominently in the new trailer.
Pfeiffer is set to portray the queen of a neighboring kingdom who threatens Aurora’s reign. According to reports, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil follows Fanning’s and Jolie’s characters as they seek to defend the country from an external threat. Naturally, this is where Michelle Pfeiffer’s character, the Mistress of Evil, comes in.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is the fourth live-action adaption of an animated Disney classic to be released this year. The other films include versions of The Lion King, Dumbo, and Aladdin, with each gaining a considerable amount of interest among audiences. A fifth adaption, Lady and the Tramp, will be released later in the fall, although that film will be made exclusively on the Disney Plus streaming service.
Maleficent 2 is set to be released on October 18th.
