The first-ever Lululemon resale program has expanded nationwide.
Starting on Earth Day, April 22nd, the athleisure company’s resale program became available to all guests across the U.S., after a successful two-state pilot in 2021.
What is Lululemon resale program?
Called Lululemon Like New, the program launched in May 2021 with a trade-in trial run across 80+ participating stores in Texas and California. A partnership between Lululemon and recommerce expert Trove, the program allows Lululemon guests to trade in their pre-loved Lululemon clothing, including pants, tops, shorts, jackets, and more, in exchange for an e-gift card.
The value of the e-gift cards varies depending on the type of item traded in and its condition once it’s approved for resale. According to CNN, Lululemon will offer $5 for tank tops, t-shirts, short and long sleeve shirts, and shorts; $10 for hoodies, sweatshirts, sweaters, pants, crops, leggings, dresses, and bags; and $25 for coats and jackets. For comparison, Lululemon sells brand-new shirts for $60 and hoodies for $120.
The pilot received an overwhelmingly positive response, with most of the inventory categorized as “good as new” showing the quality of the product allowing for second and third life cycles. With the expansion, Lululemon guests can now trade in their used clothing at one of the retailer’s 390+ participating stores across the country and shop resale products online at likenew.lululemon.com.
Lululemon Like New reinvests 100% of its profits or 2% of its revenue, whichever is higher, to support Lululemon’s commitments outlined in its Impact Agenda, including making 100 percent of products with sustainable materials and end-of-use solutions by 2030.
“At Lululemon, we’re deeply committed to creating quality products built to last and that are better for people and the planet. Bringing Lululemon Like New to all U.S. guests is a major step toward a circular eco-system and achieving our Impact Agenda goals to reduce our environmental footprint,” said Celeste Burgoyne, President, Americas and Global Guest Innovation, in a press release. “We’ve seen incredible momentum from our pilot program and we look forward to welcoming new guests nationwide.”
