Kristen Bell says Frozen 3 remains a possibility

Kristen Bell has officially announced Frozen 3, but there’s a catch

Frozen 2 characters. Will they be back for Frozen 3

Frozen 3 could still happen even though it’s been almost three years since Frozen 2 came out in theaters.

Is Frozen 3 confirmed?

Disney has yet to officially announce the third installment in the Frozen film series, but Kristen Bell, who voiced Anna in the first two movies, has recently suggested that the main voice cast of the mega-hit franchise are all up for another sequel and are basically just waiting for the studio to make it happen.

While Bell was promoting her new book The World Needs More Purple School in a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a sly reference to Frozen allowed the host to ask the actress if Frozen 3 is in the works. This led Bell to jokingly announce the sequel.

“I would… like to officially announce, with zero authority, Frozen 3,” Bell said, before quickly reminding everyone that she mentioned the phrase “zero authority” because she basically can’t announce anything Frozen-related. “No, I’m not in charge.”

When Fallon asked if Frozen 3 is at least in development, Bell replied, “Well, you know, I’m… I’ll keep it mysterious, but I know Idina [Menzel] recently said she would do it and I feel like if we’re all in, like, what are we waiting for? Let’s do it.”

Idina Menzel on Frozen 3

In an interview with Shop Today’s Jill Martin earlier this month, Menzel said that she’s open to reprising her voice role of Elsa from the Frozen movies.

“I hope it is, but I don’t know,” the actress said when asked whether Frozen 3 is happening. “[But] anytime I can be 80 and play a blonde animated girl who is, like, 15 — who has amazing arms, by the way, I love that about her.”

Josh Gad on Frozen 3

Back in 2020, Josh Gad, the voice of the ever-adorable Olaf in the Frozen franchise, said that there will only be a third movie if franchise creators Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck have a story worth exploring.

“Here’s the deal. Frozen 2 wasn’t Frozen 2 until there was a reason to exist. And similarly, I don’t know if and when there will be a Frozen 3,” Gad explained to PopCulture.com. “That’s way above my pay grade, but what I can tell you is this: There was an opportunity to take these characters and bring again a sense of hope and inspiration. … But we’ll see! If there’s always a story worth telling, I’m sure that Jennifer Lee and the incredible team over at Disney animation will tell that story one day.”

Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck on Frozen 3

At a 2019 Los Angeles press day for Frozen 2, Lee, who directed the first two movies with Buck, revealed that she’s not closing the door for a potential Frozen 3. “It feels complete to me, but I don’t know. Chris says ask him in a year,” Lee told CinemaBlend when asked if there would be a third movie in the franchise.

Buck, just like Lee, has a “never say never” mindset regarding another Frozen movie. “I mean, nothing ever closes the door,” Buck told Insider in September that year.
