Mario Kart fans can finally satisfy their hunger for some Mario-racing action even if they’re not in front of a Nintendo console with the release of Hot Wheels’ new line of die-cast vehicles and track sets based on the kart racing video game.

First announced in July 2018, the toy collection includes 1:64 scale die-cast replicas of Mario Kart characters that can race, stunt, and crash on Mario-themed track sets, which bring the video game’s virtual world to life.
Also compatible with other Hot Wheels sets, the die-cast cars will retail for $5 each. At launch, there will be four characters available: Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, and Bowser. Princess Peach, Koopa Troopa, Toad, and other characters will be added to the collection soon.
Launching alongside the die-cast character replicas are three Mario-themed track sets: the Piranha Plant Slide, Thwomp Ruins track set, and the Mario Kart Circuit Track Set. The first two track sets are part of the toy line’s “course-inspired assortments” and will be available for $20 each. The Circuit Track Set, on the other hand, is a full Hot Wheel track set, priced at $80.
All three track sets can be linked together, creating a bigger and more exciting and track.
The die-cast vehicles and track sets will be available in the U.S. exclusively at Target.com and select Target stores starting June 23rd, as well as at select retailers around the globe this summer.
To celebrate the launch of its new product line and its collaboration with Nintendo, Hot Wheels will feature Mario Kart at San Diego Comic-Con from July 17th-21st. Attendees will have access to an exclusive Hot Wheels Mario Kart “Metal Mario” die-cast vehicle, available for purchase only at Mattel’s booth. The limited-edition toy was previously available for pre-sale at shop.mattel.com, but is now sold out.
