The classic Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar is getting a summer makeover.
For the first time in Hershey’s 125-year history, the confectionery brand is changing the look of its flagship chocolate bar to include emojis. Dubbed as Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Emoji Bar, the sweet treat will feature some of the most favorite emojis in the US.
In the original design, each of the chocolate bar’s rectangular pieces called pips is engraved with the word Hershey’s. In the snack’s new look, the word Hershey’s is replaced with an emoji.
Though there are a total of 2,823 emojis in the Unicode Standard, only 25 of these will be featured on the new Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Emoji Bar. These 25 emojis are the smiling face with heart-eyes emoji, the waving hand emoji, thumbs up, oncoming fist, balloon, smiling face with sunglasses, slightly smiling face, mouth, hundred points, party popper, face with tears of joy, winking face, victory hand, palms up together, Vulcan salute, grinning face with big eyes, face with tongue, cowboy hat face, call me hand, sparkles, face blowing a kiss, ghost, heart, OK hand, and pile of poo.
Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Emoji Bar will be available in six different emoji packaging designs. Since each bar only features 16 emojis, fans have to purchase all of the packaging designs available to see each of the 25 emoji-designed pip.
As to how Hershey’s chose the 25 emojis featured on its Milk Chocolate Emoji Bar, market researcher Synqrinus conducted a research study on behalf of the chocolate brand with 1000 respondents: 500 children aged 8-13 and 500 parents of children aged 8-13. The respondents were asked to pick emojis that they think would help spark a conversation and make new connections. The result of the said study was the abovementioned 25 emojis.
Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Emoji Bar will available across the US for a limited time through the end of summer. The standard 1.55 oz. bar will retail for $0.99, the 9.45 oz. snack-size bag for $4.09, and the 2.25 oz. five-pack snack size for $1.06.
