According to Huawei, their EMUI 9 Android overlay has been used by over 120 million users. Huawei recently released EMUI 10 in beta which brings with it a totally new UX design. To that effect, EMUI 10 is much cleaner, much more modern, and more refined than its predecessors.
Huawei says that EMUI 10’s design uses the grid system and that is very magazine-like. It’s also very iOS-like to our eyes, and that isn’t a bad thing at all.
We’ve always appreciated the features and tweaks that Huawei’s EMUI overlay has brought to Android, but we’ve never been crazy about its design. EMUI 10.0 changes all of that. We have been testing EMUI 10 beta on the P30 Pro.
In general, the UI has been vastly cleaned up. The new EMUI 10 offers magazine-like aesthetics with more white space. Animations are also smoother and faster. Multitasking seems faster too. Huawei says that they are also bringing more gaming optimizations to EMUI 10.
The camera interface is now simpler and clearer to navigate and it also comes with built-in filters.
There’s also a new dark mode. Huawei explains that they haven’t just simply inverted colors the way most other companies have been doing, but that they’ve made sure dark mode is comfortable on your eyes.
We’ve been very much enjoying testing EMUI 10 in beta. Our biggest gripe is that we’re still not crazy about the icon style, but overall EMUI brings a welcome fresh aesthetic to Huawei’s phones.
