Alan Tudyk’s Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle is extending his stay on Earth after Syfy renewed Resident Alien for season 2.
The cable channel made the renewal announcement on Wednesday two weeks before the sci-fi dramedy’s season 1 finale on March 31st.
The renewal news is not surprising at all, as Resident Alien is the most-watched new cable drama in the last year in total viewers and no. 2 in the 18-49 demo. The Chris Sheridan-created series is also Syfy’s highest-rated new drama in more than six years in total viewers and earns the second-biggest time-shifting gain for any cable drama in the last year in total viewers.
The show’s January 27th premiere has already attracted 9.3 million viewers across all NBCUniversal platforms and networks. And in live + 3 comparisons, the second episode of the series saw an increase of 581,000 viewers, the biggest jump for a cable drama launch since the year 2014.
Based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, Resident Alien centers on Captain Hah Re (Tudyk), an alien who crash lands on Earth and passes himself off as a small-town human doctor named Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle. Arriving with a secret mission to kill all humans, Harry starts off living a simple life, but things get a little complicated when he’s been involved into solving a local murder. After realizing he needs to assimilate into the human world, Harry begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his mission.
Tudyk is, of course, happy with Resident Alien’s season 2 renewal, but the actor admitted in a tweet that he’s “still processing” the fact that the show was not canceled after just one season.

Aside from Tudyk, the series also stars Sara Tomko as Asta Twelvetrees, Corey Reynolds as Mike Thompson, Alice Wetterlund as D’arcy Bloom, Levi Fiehler as Ben Hawthorne, and many more.
Resident Alien airs every Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET on Syfy. The first three episodes of the series are also now available on Peacock. Following the initial three episodes, a new episode will drop every Friday until the complete 10-episode season 1 is available on the platform.
