Dunkin’s Halloween celebration won’t be complete without the return of the fan-favorite seasonal treat, Spider Donut.
Now available at participating Dunkin’ locations nationwide, the Spider Donut was first added to the coffee and donut chain’s menu back in September 2017. The specialty confection is a yeast donut frosted with orange icing and topped with a glazed chocolate MUNCHKINS donut hole treat, which resembles a spider’s body. It uses chocolate drizzle to recreate the spider legs and white drizzle for the eyes. The original Spider Donut, however, had orange drizzle to depict the eyes.
In a new blog post, Dunkin’ revealed how its Spider Donut came to life. “When we developed the Spider Donut in the Dunkin’ Test Kitchen, we wanted to incorporate classic Halloween colors and themes,” read a portion of the post. “Naturally, we were drawn to deep orange and chocolate colors for the ingredients. With that image in mind, we tried different flavor and color combinations to make the most boo-tiful (and tasty) designs. Our culinary team had lots of fun coming up with the frighteningly festive Halloween Spider Donut.”
In addition to the Spider Donut, select Dunkin’ classic donuts have also been dressed up in Halloween colors, and are now available at participating Dunkin’ stores across the U.S. through October 30th.
Completing Dunkin’s seasonal offerings this Halloween season is the new Peanut Butter Cup Macchiato as well as the Halloween DIY Dunkin’ Donut Decorating Kit. Perfect for solo celebrations and big get-togethers, each kit includes plain yeast or old-fashioned cake donuts, three sprinkle blends, and pre-packaged icing in orange, white, and chocolate varieties. Available while supplies, the kit comes in two sizes: small (4-count donuts) and large (9-count donuts).
