Dolly Parton used to be a Mexican Pizza devotee.
In a recent interview with Insider to promote her new line of Southern desserts with Duncan Hines, the legendary country music artist revealed that she loves going to fast-food restaurants, including Taco Bell, with her husband Carl Dean.
“Oh, I love to get a good burger out on the highway and French fries like everybody else,” Parton shared. “And we go get hot doughnuts now and then. We love to just get out in that little camper of ours and drive through restaurants.”
Parton added that she goes to Taco Bell when she’s craving tacos. “I like soft-shell tacos,” the I Will Always Love You singer revealed. “I like the others, but they fall apart so bad, especially if you’re riding around. So I always get a Taco Supreme, with the sour cream and all that, in the soft shell. I love that.”
Parton went on to share that her usual Taco Bell order also includes “an order of rice and beans” and noted that she only gets “mild sauce” because she doesn’t like “to get it too hot and ruin everything.”
Parton also revealed that she used to love Taco Bell’s Mexican Pizza, which the fast-food chain infamously discontinued in November 2020 after 35 years on the menu. When asked if she thinks the chain should bring it back, Parton immediately and enthusiastically answered, “I think they should!”
Taco Bell’s decision to remove the Mexican Pizza from its menu was met with outrage from fans. In fact, over 170,000 people have already signed the Save the Mexican Pizza Change.org petition in an attempt to convince the chain to reverse its move.
When will Taco Bell bring back the Mexican Pizza?
While it doesn’t look like the Mexican Pizza will be returning to the menu anytime soon, Taco Bell’s global chief food innovation officer Liz Matthews told Insider last March that “there’s always a chance” for the fan-favorite menu item to come back.
“We’re constantly listening to our customers. So I wouldn’t pull that off the table,” Matthews said at the time.
A former specialty item at Taco Bell, the Mexican Pizza featured two crisp corn tortilla shells filled with seasoned ground beef and hearty beans and then topped with pizza sauce, a blend of three real kinds of cheese – cheddar, pepper jack, and mozzarella – melted to perfection and topped with diced ripe tomatoes.
The Dolly Parton Baking Collection
Launched last January 26th, Parton’s Southern desserts line with Duncan Hines includes a banana pudding cake mix, coconut cake mix, creamy buttercream frosting, and creamy chocolate buttercream frosting. The Dolly Parton Baking Collection has already sold out on the Duncan Hines website, but it will be available in grocery stores nationwide in March.
