ASUS has announced the launch of the ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED ultra-slim laptop, which they claim to be the world’s thinnest OLED laptop. Specifically, the ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED has a width of just 1cm and weighs just 2.2 lbs.
ASUS primarily relied on CNC machining to create a thinner webcam and OLED panel, redesign the layout for the internal components, and develop a lightweight keyboard deck using magnesium-aluminum. This made it possible for ASUS to keep the width and weight of the ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED as low as possible.
The company also announced that it streamlined the circuit boards to make them thinner, increased the number of transistors to deliver better performance, included an additional fan to improve airflow, and took a refreshed approach to the materials it used in the ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED to make the laptop thinner.
The new ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED has a 2.8K OLED display that ASUS has christened the “ASUS Lumina OLED display”. The new name is intended to communicate the superiority of this screen compared to traditional OLED screens on other ASUS devices.
ASUS says it will apply a strict quality criterion to Lumina OLED displays to ensure they are more accurate and reliable, but we couldn’t help but wonder why ASUS chose a 60Hz 2.8K resolution panel if they are genuinely keen on offering a “superior visual experience that [goes] beyond traditional OLED displays” – this was the one major let-down for us.
The OLED screen is Dolby Vision certified and has new display technologies like ASUS Splendid and ASUS OLED Care to optimize the viewing experience so users can get the best out of their devices. The new screen will also have a 0.2ms response time and TÜV Rheinland certification to protect users’ eyes.
Performance is one primary concern for users buying ultra-thin devices. The norm has been to sacrifice some performance to keep the device running smoothly, but ASUS says ultra-thin laptop users can rest assured that the ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED will offer them good performance.
The ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor, 32GB RAM, 1TB PCIe SSD, and Intel Iris X Graphics. The laptop also comes with an AI-powered FHD IR camera, Wi-Fi 6E support, and a 63Wh battery that ASUS claims will deliver up to 14 hours of video streaming.
It may not offer the kind of performance you’d need for performance-intensive activities like video/photo editing or gaming, but the ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED could be an ideal choice for a user who is constantly on the move and does not want to be weighed down by a bulky laptop.
