An unofficial Amityville movie is bringing the infamous cursed house into outer space.
On Thursday, Wild Eye Releasing, the studio behind movies like Shark Exorcist and The Jurassic Games, dropped the trailer for Amityville in Space, the latest odd twist on the concept of The Amityville Horror. Based on the trailer, which you can watch below, Amityville in Space is self-aware and revels in its low-budget glory like popular schlock-horror movies Sharknado and Velocipastor.
Directed by Mark Polonia, the man behind Jurassic Shark 2: Aquapocalypse, Amityville in Space depicts the ultimate battle against the Amityville curse after the infamous murder house is exorcised from Earth and reappears in outer space. Set to be released in July, the film stars Titus Himmelberger, Cassandra Hayes, Tim Hatch, Ryan Dalton, and Jeff Kirkendall. You can check out the film’s poster below:
Though not part of the official The Amityville Horror film series, Amityville in Space makes The Amityville Horror franchise the latest Earth-set horror property to literally aim for the stars. The Amityville Horror follows the Leprechaun franchise that memorably took its titular killer to space in the 1997 movie Leprechaun 4: In Space, and the Friday the 13th movie series that brought Jason Voorhees off-world in the 2002 sci-fi slasher film Jason X.
The Amityville Horror movie franchise
The Amityville Horror movie franchise is based on the supposedly real-life haunting that gained attention when author Jay Anson wrote a novel about it in 1977. In 1974, Ronald DeFeo, Jr. killed his entire family in the house, and a year and change later, the next owners, George and Kathleen Lutz, claimed to have been terrorized by dark spirits and forced to move.
The story was the inspiration of the original 1979 The Amityville Horror movie, which was followed by a series of sequels and spinoffs throughout the 80s and 90s, including Amityville II: The Possession (1982), Amityville 3D (1983), Amityville: It’s About Time (1992), and Amityville Dollhouse (1996).
In 2005, Ryan Reynolds starred in an official remake of the original The Amityville Horror movie, and more recently, in 2017, Franck Khalfoun directed Amityville: The Awakening. There are other Amityville movies that previously came out, but most of them are not actually part of any legitimate franchise.
