For years, Photoshop users have demanded a true Photoshop experience on their phones, and Adobe is finally delivering that. The iconic image-editing program is now out of beta and free for iPhone, with Android support coming later this year.

The big news here is that this is not a watered-down version of Photoshop at all. The Photoshop mobile app features layers, masks, Generative AI Fill, and full PSD file support, all tailored for your phone’s screen.

“We’re empowering a new generation to edit wherever inspiration strikes—no studio required.” – Ashley Still, Adobe’s SVP for Digital Media.

The new Photoshop iPhone app successfully removes the barrier between desktop capabilities and mobile so that Photoshop’s core toolkit is now genuinely pocket-sized, whether you’re making a mood board during your commute or editing a photo with lots of layers on the go.

The app even works with Lightroom, Fresco, and Express, allowing you to switch between projects without missing a beat.

Some of Photoshop’s notable mobile features include:

  • Generative Fill (trained on Adobe Stock and public-domain content) allows you to add or replace objects in photographs using a text prompt—no advanced editing skills required.
  • Layer styles, blend modes, and Content-Aware Fill behave just like their desktop equivalents.
  • You can create a design on your iPhone, refine it on the online version, and then export it as a print-ready PSD.

I briefly tried out the new Photoshop app on iPhone, and I’m impressed by how capable the app is. Unlike Photoshop Express which is a pared-down version of Photoshop, the app offers a true Photoshop experience on mobile. Ultimately, with competitors like Canva dominating casual mobile users, Photoshop’s new app might help Adobe recover market share with prosumers.

Pricing

While the free offering of Photoshop mobile covers basics like healing brushes and simple selections, if you want to unlock advanced tools like Object Select and 20,000+ fonts, that requires a $7.99/month Mobile & Web plan. However, current Photoshop subscribers get full mobile/web access at no extra cost.
