The long-awaited McDonald’s-themed DualSense PS5 controller has been officially scrapped.
The supposed limited-edition controller showcased a two-toned design using the fast-food chain’s iconic colors alongside burgers and fries illustrations. Buttons were painted yellow and the iconic McDonald’s logo sits in the center of the touchpad to complete the look.
The controller was a planned release to celebrate McDonald’s celebration of its first store in Australia about 50 years ago according to NME. These were planned to be part of a giveaway in cooperation with select Twitch streamers around the first week of August, but the company has now officially dropped it.
It was Press Start that informed the public that the limited-edition controller giveaway was no longer happening. The statement read that Sony “has not authorized the use of its controller in promotional materials related to the proposed Stream Week event.” Sony then apologized for the inconvenience.
McDonald’s will continue to celebrate its 50th anniversary by giving away 50th birthday hoodies instead. They’ve chosen 50 channel subscription for Twitch streamers to hand out as well.
Sony’s latest-generation console has been in high demand since its release and the DualSense controllers have been one of the device’s highlights. That said, Sony still has a lot of plans for its console, including storage expansion and even a new generation of VR controllers.
