Xiaomi has officially unveiled its latest flagship lineup — the Xiaomi 12 series. Launched in China, the Xiaomi 12 series consists of three devices: the Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12X, and the top of the line Xiaomi 12 Pro.
As expected of this year’s flagships, the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor. The Xiaomi 12X, on the other hand, will be powered by the respectable Snapdragon 870.
With its latest lineup, Xiaomi boasts significant improvements and upgrades to its cameras. For starters, the Xiaomi12 Pro packs in a Sony IMX707 sensor for even better performance. On top of that, Xiaomi has added two more 50-megapixel cameras along with the main sensor, which includes a 50-megapixel ultra-wide and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens. However, the Xiaomi 12 and 12X’s 50-megapixel main cameras are partnered with 13-megapixel ultra-wide and 5-megapixel tele-macro cameras.
On the software side, Xiaomi has injected its proprietary AI algorithms to make capturing photos and videos even easier. To that effect, the Xiaomi 12 series offers ProFocus, which intelligently identifies and tracks objects to maintain focus, Ultra Night Video, eye and face autofocus, and more.
Selfies are taken care of using a 32-megapixel in-display selfie camera which is found across all three models.
Large displays are a theme for this lineup with the 12 Pro having the biggest display, measured at 6.73-inches. The Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12X carry similarly sized 6.28-inch displays.
The devices’ panels are AMOLED, too, and carry an A+ rating from DisplayMate. TrueColor support ensures accuracy and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus gives that added protection we all need. Additionally, the 12 series supports HDR 10+. The 12 Pro also offers additional SGS Eye Care Display certification.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro packs in a quad-speaker system composed of two tweeters and two subwoofers. SOUND by Harmon Kardon is available on all devices as well as support for Dolby Atmos.
A 4,500 mAh battery can be found on the 12 and 12X and 4,600mAh on the Pro variant. 120W charging makes another appearance on the company’s Pro model while 67W wired is available for the Xiaomi 12 and 57W wired for the Xiaomi 12X. Additionally, the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro support 50W wireless turbocharging and 10W reverse wireless charging as well as Xiaomi’s AdaptiveCharge smart charging technology.
UFS 3.1 storage can be found on all three devices as well as LPDDR5 RAM. The Xiaomi 12X will have 8GB of RAM onboard and supports up to 256GB of storage while the Xiaomi 12 will have up to 12GB of RAM and it too supports up to 256GB of internal storage. Last but not least, the Xiaomi 12 Pro can also accommodate up to 12GB of RAM but will only have a single 256GB storage option.
All members of the series are equipped with cooling systems with super-large vapor chambers and layers of graphite to optimize temperature and maintain performance. Dual 5G standby is also available on all models as well as NFC and Bluetooth 5.2.
