Mabel Pines and Dipper Pines in Gravity Falls

If you have just finished streaming the second season of Gravity Falls online, then you are probably wondering whether the animated series is returning for a third season. Created by Alex Hirsch, season 2 of the series ended its original run back in 2016, but is there still a possibility for the show to come back for a season 3? Read on to find the answer.

Gravity Falls season 2 and season 3 release dates

There’s no Gravity Falls season 3 release date because Gravity Falls ended after its second season, which ran on Disney XD from August 1, 2014, to February 15, 2016.

Why was Gravity Falls canceled after season 2?

When Hirsch announced on November 20, 2015, that the series would finish with its second season, he made it clear that this was “100% [his] choice” and that “the show isn’t being canceled – it’s being finished” and was simply reaching its natural conclusion. Despite the show officially ending in 2016, Hirsch later stated that he remains open to continuing the series with additional episodes or specials.

Since its series finale, Gravity Falls has released the following shorts:

  • Soos’ Stan Fiction (4 episodes): February 17, 2017
  • Gravity Falls x Line Rider (1 episode): September 11, 2020
