About The Chosen

Created by Dallas Jenkins, The Chosen is the first-ever multi-season series about the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth in entertainment history. Though it is based on true stories of the gospels of Jesus Christ, the show delivers messages that are relatable to a wider audience beyond the Christian community.

While there are a plethora of astounding films and TV shows that pay homage to the life and sacrifice of Jesus, The Chosen has taken on a new perspective by telling his heartfelt story through the eyes of people who have met him, interacted with him, followed him, and been blessed by him. Thanks to this innovative point of view, the audience gets the opportunity to watch the story unfold in a manner that is much more personal and immediate.

So far, all the episodes of The Chosen were written by Tyler Thompson, Dallas Jenkins, and Ryan Swanson, and are directed by Dallas Jenkins.

What happened in The Chosen season 1, 2, and 3?

The eight episodes of the first season of The Chosen see how Jesus reaches out to people in first-century Jerusalem to build a group for his ministry. And being true to the Bible, the series shows how he welcomed people from different backgrounds.

Jesus performs his first miracles and calls upon Mary Magdalene, a redeemed woman, Thaddeus, a stonemason, Little James, a choir member, Simon, Andrew, Big James, and John, fishermen, Thomas, a caterer, Ramah, a vintner, and Matthew, a tax collector, to join him. Along the way, Jesus meets Nicodemus, a perplexed Pharisee, and later travels with his group through Samaria where he reveals himself to Photina, a Samaritan woman, and publicly launches his ministry. The season culminates with this significant event.

The Chosen season 2 takes place in Samaria and gradually moves into nearby regions, such as Syria and Judea, where Jesus continues to build his group of disciples. Alongside performing miracles, he invites Philip, a disciple of John the Baptizer, Nathanael, an architect, and Simon Z, a Zealot, to join his cause. As news of Jesus spreads throughout the area, he faces both opportunities and challenges. Preparations are also made for his Sermon on the Mount, with assistance from Judas Iscariot, a business apprentice.

In the third season, the group returns to the outskirts of Capernaum, where the growing popularity of Jesus creates concern among various societal and political groups, such as the Romans and the Pharisees. After the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus goes back to his hometown, resulting in a change in his ministry. He sends his 12 apostles out in pairs to preach and perform miracles on their own, leading to their greatest challenge yet.
