Westworld will introduce brand new worlds when it returns to HBO for its fourth season.
In an interview with Deadline’s Hero Nation to promote her new movie Reminiscence, Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy gave a little tease about what fans can expect from the new season of the sci-fi drama.
“You’re going to see some new worlds that I think are really fun,” said Joy. “And you’re going to see someone who I kidnapped from Reminiscence in a funny way.”
Westworld alums Thandiwe Newton and Angela Sarafyan are among the cast of Reminiscence, so it’s likely that either one of them is the actor that will be making an appearance in Westworld season 4. But since the Reminiscence cast also includes Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Ferguson, Cliff Curtis, and Daniel Wu, it shouldn’t be a surprise if one of them ends up having a cameo in the upcoming season of the Emmy-winning series.
Though a Reminiscence actor will appear in Westworld season 4, Joy clarified that there’s no “crossover” between the movie and the TV series.
This isn’t the first time Joy has talked about the new worlds that viewers will be seeing in Westworld season 4. In an interview with ComicBook.com earlier this month, Joy said that she’s currently “busy writing and producing” the new batch of episodes, adding that “there’s always a whole new world, always something new to explore” in the Westworld universe.
Westworld introduced the theme park Shogun world in season 2. The show also brought viewers to an exotic, jungle world, where The Man in Black’s (Ed Harris) daughter, Emily Grace (Katja Herbers), made her first appearance. The original Westworld movie features a Roman world and a Medieval World, but both worlds are yet to be explored in the TV series.
Westworld season 4, which is currently filming at the Melody Ranch in Santa Clarita, California, has no release date yet. Reminiscence, meanwhile, opens in U.S. theaters and arrives on HBO Max on August 20th.
