Over 25,000 cases of Starbucks Vanilla Frappuccinos have been recalled after glass was found inside some of the 13.7oz bottles.

According to a notice published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), PepsiCo, which partners with Starbucks to distribute the coffeehouse chain’s bottled drinks in retail stores across the country, started to voluntarily recall the affected products on January 28th.

A total of 25,200 cases were recalled, and at 12 bottles per case, it means the federal agency requested more than 300,000 bottles to be returned.

The affected Starbucks Vanilla Frappuccinos, with UPC number 0 12000-81331 3, have the following expiration dates: March 8th, 2023; May 29th, 2023; June 4th, 2023, and June 10th, 2023.

The FDA said a “foreign object (glass)” had been found in some of the bottles, leading it to categorize the recall as Class II. This means exposure to the recalled product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” according to the agency.

It was not immediately clear whether any injuries have been reported due to the affected products. The circumstances of how the glass was discovered in some bottles of Starbucks Vanilla Frappuccinos were also unavailable.

In a statement to ABC News on February 17th, PepsiCo made it clear that Starbucks Vanilla Frappuccinos were not sold at Starbucks locations, but at several retail stores nationwide, including Target, Amazon, Walmart, and Safeway. PepsiCo said that the affected products were being removed from store shelves across the country.

“The North American Coffee Partnership is committed to a high level of quality in the products we serve,” PepsiCo said. “Delivering a quality experience to our consumers is our top priority and we always act with an abundance of caution whenever a potential concern is raised.”

As pointed out by The Guardian, this is the second time since last year that a Starbucks retail product has been recalled. In August 2022, PepsiCo had to recall 221 cases of Vanilla Espresso Triple Shot drinks in seven states of the country after metal fragments were detected in the products. That recall was also categorized as Class II.
