Attention shoppers! If you recently purchased Bacalaitos Criollos Codfish Frying Mix or Lactaid Milk from Walmart, there’s important information you need to know. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), these two popular food products have been recalled due to a potential allergen concern.

Reasons for Recall

On September 19th, San Sebastian, Puerto Rico-based Avole Inc. announced that it is voluntarily recalling 7-ounce bags of Bacalaitos Criollos Codfish Frying Mix because they may contain undeclared fish (pollock). Individuals with a fish allergy or severe sensitivity could experience a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The recall was initiated following an FDA inspection on September 5th, which revealed that the product label failed to declare “fish (pollock)” as an ingredient and in the “contains” statement. To rectify this issue, Avole Inc. is recalling the product to relabel it correctly. To date, there have been no reported cases of illness or injury associated with this recall.

Then on September 20th, HP Hood LLC announced that it is voluntarily recalling five SKUs of 96-ounce containers of Lactaid Milk due to the potential presence of trace amounts of almond, which is not listed on the label. Individuals with a severe almond allergy could experience a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.

The recall was initiated after routine maintenance programs identified the potential for almond contamination. To date, there have been no reported cases of illness associated with this recall.
