With the transition to working from home due to the pandemic, the use of video calls has pretty much replaced face-to-face interactions. This is why web cameras or webcams have become a staple tech equipment during the past couple of months. Sony Electronics Inc. recognized this need and has announced the release of a new desktop application called Imaging Edge Webcam. This allows users to easily transform their compatible Sony digital camera into a high-quality webcam by simply connecting it to a PC via USB. And it’s all free of charge.

Imaging Edge Webcam allows the use of Sony’s cameras to livestream and use it for video conferencing with detailed picture quality. Not only that, but one can also use features specific to the camera while on video calls as well as its autofocus system.

As to which cameras can take advantage of this app, Sony says the Imaging Edge Webcam is compatible with 35 Sony camera models including the Alpha 9 II, Alpha 9, Alpha 7R IV, Alpha 7R III, Alpha 7R II, Alpha 7S II, Alpha 7S, Alpha 7 III, Alpha 7 II, Alpha 6600, Alpha 6400, Alpha 6100, RX100 VII, RX100 VI, RX0 II, RX0, Digital Camera ZV-1, the new Alpha 7S III, and more.
