Way back in 2018 Puffco broke new ground with the release of the Peak, an ultra-modern battery-powered e-rig that took the vaping scene by storm with its smooth flavorful clouds and super sleek design aesthetic. The peak ushered in a whole new category of handheld e-rigs and a few years later there are numerous new players in the game. On the outside, the Puffco Peak Pro may look similar to the original but the upgrades under the hood is where the new Puffco Peak Pro really shines and continues to set the bar for delivering first-class vaping experiences. Read on for our in-depth Puffco Peak Pro review.

Design

The beautiful modern design that dazzled us when the original Puffco Peak debuted has been elegantly transformed into a matured yet more stylish look. The slightly slimmer glass piece and base wrapped in a matte finish with a textured grip makes holding the Puffco Peak Pro super comfortable while leaving it fingerprint free. The power button has also been redesigned which we found much easier to use compared to the original Peak. Another perk of the Peak Pro is that you can still use your customized artisanal glass pieces to replace the stock glass as it uses the same mounting system as the original.

We’ve always loved the ultra-light yet rugged case that came with the original Peak so we were very excited to see that Puffco has also updated the case to match the modern design aesthetic of the Peak Pro. The case now includes a handle and is magnetized so it stays closed shut during travel. We also appreciated that we could now leave the base and glass piece attached together inside the case instead of having to disconnect them before storing.

Vaping performance

One of the biggest improvements of the Puffco Peak Pro is the completely redesigned atomizer and heating chamber. The ceramic dish is now 40% larger while the technology built into the new atomizer keeps a consistent temperature throughout the entire session. We were able to load more material into the chamber and found that our favorite concentrates were cooked more evenly and efficiently compared to the original Peak. The chamber quickly heated up our concentrate and we enjoyed some pretty massive clouds that were full of smooth flavor thanks to its increased size and surface area along with the directional airflow carb cap that kept our concentrates swirling evenly around the ceramic dish. We also appreciated that the cap can be tethered to the atomizer to ensure that we wouldn’t accidentally lose it under the couch if it happened to fall off during one of our sessions.

The new atomizer does have one drawback though. Unlike the original Peak, the new Peak Pro doesn’t allow you to remove the ceramic cup to clean or swap out with a quartz/ruby/sic cup. In the past, we were able to fully clean the ceramic cup by heating it with a torch for a few seconds but now you will have to fork out $60 for a replacement atomizer. This reason alone kept us motivated to keep the heating chamber meticulously clean by using a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol to wipe the dish after each use.

Battery life

When it comes to charging and battery life the Puffco Peak Pro performs very well. It charged up quickly using USB-C and gave us 30 delightful sessions on a full charge. There is an optional wireless charging dock available that keeps the Peak Pro charged and ready to use but does come at an extra cost of $120.

App and additional features

Another notable improvement we enjoyed was using the Puffco mobile app. While you can use the device without ever touching the app, we found the ability to customize temperature, boost time, and lighting effects along with a heads-up display of session count, bowl temperature, and battery life to be an integral part of the experience. Being an Android user was beneficial as we were able to use an official app downloaded from the Google Play Store. Unfortunately, Apple users have to deal with a workaround solution by logging into the app through a special mobile browser and must have an internet connection in order to use the app. This is no fault of Puffco though, Apple has banned all vaping apps from their App Store since November 2019.

Puffco Peak Pro review verdict

The Puffco Peak Pro is a premium e-rig that takes vaping to the next level and will keep you lifted with its smooth clouds of delicious vapor in a sleek looking form factor. New features like the redesigned atomizer and larger heating chamber along with the new companion mobile app make it well worth the premium price tag. Made with all levels of users in mind, it’s intuitive enough for a newcomer to pick up and start enjoying with ease while long time veterans can dial in and customize every setting to their heart’s content.

Is the Puffco Peak Pro worth it?

At a price point of $400, the Puffco Peak Pro is at the top of the pricing spectrum when it comes to e-rigs, and for good reason. Throw in the wireless charging dock ($180) plus an extra atomizer ($60) and you’re now looking at a $580 price tag. If you’re looking for a comparable alternative at a lower price point, we suggest taking a look at the new Dr Dabber Boost Evo ($330). Granted the Boost Evo’s overall design aesthetic isn’t on the same level as the Peak Pro but you’ll get a very similar experience and it uses a quartz chamber as opposed to ceramic. Or you can just grab an original Puffco Peak which is now priced at an affordable $250 and still lives up to the hype. At the end of the day, all three of these devices will give you those tasty clouds you are pining for.
