OPPO has officially launched its ColorOS 13, making it one of the first Android overlays built on top of the Android 13 OS. The new ColorOS offers a smart and intuitive design, user-friendly features, and it integrates with Android’s latest security and privacy updates.
ColorOS 13: A First Look
The ColorOS 13 is centered on OPPO’s latest Aquamorphic design that is inspired by water and how it interacts with other elements in nature. As a result, the operating system’s design is fluid and vibrant with a user interface that is intuitive. And if you ask us – it’s also very iOS-like when it comes to aesthetics, and that’s not a bad thing.
The changes in light, one would notice between the time of sunrise and sunset served as inspiration for ColorOS 13’s System Theme Palette. These “Aquamorphic Visuals” are intended to provide users with a comfortable and relaxing user experience.
ColorOS 13 also incorporates natural illustrations and animation effects, which, combined with OPPO’s “Quantum Animation Engine”, provide you with improved feedback when interacting with ColorOS 13’s user interface.
The new software features a layout that adapts the operating system to different screen ratios and varied OPPO devices to make more efficient use of screen space while also allowing users to experience interactions that are visually uniform.
The layout includes a home-screen management system that provides tools like “Shelf” and “Global Search Banner”, which offer quick access to widgets and simplifies device and online searching.
The new design also provides a refreshed system hierarchy, new app icon designs, and updated fonts and typography.
Always-On Display
ColorOS 13 features a smart always-on display that gives you access to app controls, notifications, and other information without having to unlock the screen. Spotify, Zomato, Bitmoji and Swiggy are some of the companies that OPPO collaborated with to roll out this feature.
The Always-on display further improves user experience by including a “Homeland” animation that features animals in their natural habitat and depicts daily temperature changes through the transformation of their habitat, calling attention to climate change.
A partnership with Snapchat brings Bitmoji to ColorOS 13 through the Bitmoji app. The Bitmoji Always-on Display allows you to show your daily activities through your personal Bitmoji on screen. On the other hand, the Insight Always-On Display uses a color bar to display device usage based on the number of times you have unlocked the phone and the number of hours the phone was in use.
According to OPPO, the purpose of the Insight Always-on display is to improve your digital well-being and encourage you to spend more time away from your device.
Multi-Screen Connect
OPPO is launching Multi-Screen Connect with ColorOS 13 allowing users to connect smartphones to a PC or OPPO Pad Air and transfer data seamlessly. With this feature, you can use your mobile apps on a larger screen.
If your workflow requires the use of multiple devices, you can sync your clipboard across devices to boost productivity. This will be the first time Multi-Screen Connect is available outside of Mainland China.
Security and privacy
ColorOS 13 provides you with enhanced security and privacy features, such as “Auto Pixelate”, which automatically recognizes and blurs your profile photos and name in chat screenshots. As a result, users can easily share screenshots without compromising their privacy.
The new OS even encrypts your private files and stores them in a “Private Safe” with the help of the popular algorithm Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to provide enhanced security.
ColorOS 13 also incorporates standard features of the Android 13 platform, such as the capability of automatically deleting clipboard history on a period-to-period basis and the Nearby Wi-Fi feature that allows users to connect to Wi-Fi without revealing location information.
OPPO will begin to roll out ColorOS 13 this month, starting with the Find X5 Pro, Find X5, and Find N2. The rollout to other devices will continue in subsequent months and should be completed by the first half of 2023.
